- As a Sergeant, Transit Public Safety, you will be responsible for supervision of Transit Public Safety (TPS) Peace Officers in carrying out community safety activities and initiatives related to transit public safety. Primary duties include:

- Supervise, mentor and manage performance development of TPS officers, which includes directing the deployment of officers to ensure they are assigned as required.
- Monitor calls dispatched to TPS to ensure an appropriate response is provided.
- Use training and incident command to respond to many issues with various levels of risk, mental health and suicide prevention, suspicious packages, bio-hazards, illicit drugs, crowd control, critical incidents, etc.
- Investigate municipal, provincial and criminal offences relating to incidents occurring on Calgary Transit.
- Collect information through interviews; compile and document relevant information on all incidents and complete in-depth reports used as evidence in Criminal and Municipal court proceedings.
- Collaborate with and exchange criminal and confidential information with the Calgary Police and law enforcement agencies including the RCMP, Canadian Border Services and Canadian Security Intelligence Service.
- Work proactively with all emergency services, concentrating on public safety and mitigating risk to the corporation and citizens of Calgary.
- Respond to and complete the investigation of all complaints against TPS Officers; prepare written reports for all levels of management, Human Resources and Ministry of the Solicitor General and Public Security in order to make determinations regarding discipline and final disposition of the complaint.
- Represent the Emergency Management & Community Safety (EMCS) Business Unit and Transit Public Safety at meetings and events with other City of Calgary Business Units, Emergency Services agencies and Contract Security.
- Attend community associations or group meetings to provide advice or respond to safety related concerns.

**Qualifications**
- A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g., GED) combined with job-related course work and at least 8 years of relevant experience, including experience leading others; OR
- A completed 1 year certificate in Criminal Justice, Business, Public Safety, Social Work or a related field and at least 5 years of relevant experience, including experience leading others.
- The ability to hold the appointments of Bylaw Enforcement Officer and Community Peace Officer.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, and no current suspensions or charges pending.
- An intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Outlook).
- Leadership experience in a law enforcement capacity working closely with citizens in a community-based setting will be considered an asset.
- Previous coaching, training, and/or mentoring experience will also be considered an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, excellent communication and time management skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- If you are not currently a level 1 Community Peace Officer with the City of Calgary you will be required to meet the provincial standard on the Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E), Correctional Officer Physical Aptitude Test (COPAT), Police Officer Physical Aptitude Test (POPAT) or Alberta Physical Readiness Evaluation of Police (APREP) physical fitness test.

**Working Conditions**:This position works in the office and the field. Field work is in a variety of working conditions with exposure to disagreeable conditions and hazards. 24 hour shift work is required.

- Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit
