**Electronics Technician**:
**Primary Purpose**: To creatively contribute to electronics development, design, service, and support for teaching and research programs in the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics.

**Nature of Work**:

- Reports to the Manager of the Physics Electronics Shop and ultimately to the Head of the Physics and Engineering Physics Department.
- This position operates the Electronics Shop within the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics.
- This position interacts with faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate students within the Department and sometimes outside of it.
- This position may perform as a working supervisor with responsibility for coordinating and monitoring the work of others.
- The incumbent is expected to contribute with innovative ideas, provide advanced technical advice, and independently decide which processes to use to achieve objectives.
- The incumbent must work independently with mínimal supervision and plan their workflow to handle deadlines, peak periods, and unexpected situations.

**Typical Duties or Accountabilities**:

- The acquisition, construction, maintenance, modification, repair, and safety compliance of new or existing electronics equipment for research and undergraduate labs
- Collaboration with the Physics Machine Shop on mechanical/machining projects that require electronics expertise.
- Provide electronics support to the Department’s Astronomy program with the maintenance and enhancement of the astronomical observatories.
- Assisting undergraduate students with the electronics aspects of their design projects.
- Possible collaborations include electronics technicians in other Departments or special electronics projects for other Science Departments.
- Other tasks as assigned.

**Education**:

- Graduation from a recognized technical institute in electronics (e.g. Electronic Systems Engineering Technology from Saskatchewan Polytechnic), or a B.Sc. or B.E. degree with advanced electronics related course work.

**Experience**:

- Have an advanced competency in designing, constructing, maintaining, diagnosing and repairing electronic equipment.
- Development, programming, and implementation of computerized controllers that interface with electronic/mechanical hardware.

**Skills**:

- Aptitude for working hands-on with a wide variety of electronics equipment, tools, and materials.
- Proficiency in analysis, creativity, imagination, and attention to detail.
- A strong interest in continuous improvement of skills and education.
- Flexibility in uncertain situations and adapt well to change.
- Ability to interpret and comprehend technical documents and instructions as well as the ability to document procedures.
- Exercise good judgement in the planning, organization, and completion of projects.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effective organizational and time management skills.
