Power & Politics is Canada’s premier daily politics show. As a live two-hour program Monday to Friday, it’s where Canadians go to understand the issues, hear from newsmakers and see politicians held to account. The show breaks and makes news.
- We are looking for a collaborative and thoughtful journalist to become an associate producer on the program. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with top-tier Canadian journalists.
- You care about the people you work with and have a deep appreciation for different perspectives, opinions and experiences. You live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
- While this is primarily a television production job, a comfort level with all media lines is essential. You will also have experience executing social media strategies to help expand the journalistic footprint of Power & Politics beyond the traditional media platforms, and outside the program’s two-hour daily broadcast. You will have the ability to write and/or create digital and radio content generated from Power & Politics.

**The Role**:

- With direction from the senior producers, the associate producer will participate in the production, direction and/or post-production of Power & Politics. This may include chasing guests, researching stories, graphics creation and video editing. There is a requirement to develop meaningful stories and contacts. There is often a requirement to coordinate with the activities of others for the production of this material. Work must adhere to CBC journalistic and/or program policies, practices and standards but initiative and independent judgement are required.

**Key tasks**:
- Pitch ideas for program content and participate in the preparation of the program.-
- Assist in developing program content, including writing, researching and/or editing (text, graphics, video).-
- Obtain and organize technical and production resources required by the program.-
- Prepare scripts and ensure adherence to the style and format of the program.-
- Organize the participation of interviewees, creative contributors and other participants, develop background, introduction and line of questioning, conduct or arrange for any necessary research, and ensure the briefing of the host.-
- Maintain contact files.-
- Participate in the evaluation of all aspects of the production.**As required, performs the following tasks**:
- Produce program elements.-
- Edit and mix, or direct the editing and mixing of, audio and/or visual elements.-
- Write and edit program text.-
- Write online stories based on program material.-
- Edit, encode, digitize and package audio and video material for a website.-
- Perform other production or administrative tasks associated with the smooth functioning of the program.-
- University degree or equivalent.-
- Minimum of two years of experience in broadcasting or a closely related industry.-
- In-depth knowledge of national news.-
- A thorough passion for, knowledge and understanding of Canadian politics, and its place alongside both American and wider international political issues.-
- Solid journalistic skills.-
- Excellent production skills, including graphics creation.-
- Previous experience working in a national or local newsroom in daily news.-
- Demonstrated ability to develop meaningful stories and develop contacts.-
- Ability to file online stories and use social media to communicate content.-
- Understanding of CBC News and the parliamentary bureau.-
- Ability to coordinate newsgathering and rollout with other platforms.-
- Ability to write clearly and concisely.-
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.-
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, overtime and weekends, as required.-
- Ability to contribute to a highly creative and collaborative team in a dynamic work environment.-
- Demonstrated ability to take direction and work cooperatively within a small production unit.-
- Demonstrated judgment, tact and diplomacy.-
- Ability to take initiative, be proactive and work
