**Responsibilities**:
The RVT-Project Coordinator is responsible for project development and coordination associated with Veterinary Services projects, and will also provide high level Registered Veterinary Technician/Registered Laboratory Animal Technician (RVT/RLAT) skills, including sick animal response. The role will provide related administrative support, in conjunction with ACVS Veterinarians, to animal-based scientists associated with Western’s Research Community. The RVT-Project coordinator will schedule staff involved in projects and day-to-day operations, provide oversight and maintenance of ACVS’s veterinary drugs and supplies inventories, oversee and schedule equipment and procedure spaces, and provide on-call and after-hours RVT/RLAT technical support. The role will support the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) relating to the Veterinary Services sub-team, participate in departmental and sub-team meetings, and support departmental teaching/training initiatives. The individual must be available to work with all species in all areas of the facilities as described on the approved Animal Use Protocols (AUPs) and in accordance with operational requirements, e.g. weekdays, evenings, weekends, holidays.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- Graduate from a recognized Veterinary Technician Program
- Maintained Registered Veterinary Technician designation in Ontario (OAVT), and Canada - Canadian Association for Laboratory Animal Science (CALAS)
- Post-secondary training in Project Management preferred

**Experience**:

- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a RVT with primary duties in anesthesia, anesthetic monitoring and post-operative care in a variety of species
- 2 years experience supervising staff; in a unionized environment preferred
- Minimum 1 year of experience working as a Veterinary Technician within an academic research environment
- 1 year of experience in project management
- 1 year of experience working in a customer service role

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- In-depth knowledge of appropriate care of normal and abnormal states of common laboratory animal species and experience in responding to and treatment of sick-animals
- In-depth knowledge of common technical animal care procedures, common diseases and parasites, approaches for sample collections and on laboratory equipment related to animal care
- In-depth knowledge of injectable and gas anesthetic regimens, operating anesthetic machines, infusion pumps, ventilators, and multi-parameter monitoring devices
- Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory bodies and regulations associated with animal care and use in research, teaching and testing
- Demonstrated high-level skill and competence in anesthesia, anesthetic monitoring, and post-operative care in a variety of species without supervision
- Ability to demonstrate to investigators ACVS’ mandate of serving them and facilitating their research
- Demonstrated consistent care and compassion for animals used in a research setting
- Communication skills to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, and provide a rationale for action
- Proven attention to detail; ability to accurately and efficiently transfer data into charts and tables
- Ability to maintain a high degree of diplomacy and confidentiality on all information related to the work performed within the department
- Proven problem solving and referencing skills - demonstrates the ability to reference/update supervisors at appropriate times
- Ability to remain calm, personable, productive and efficient under stressful conditions
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software
- Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively communicate University guidelines, policies and practices to key stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and coordinate a busy team under occasional challenging and stressful circumstances
