Building a community of hope since 1987, we would like to invite you to join our journey. Siloam Mission is currently seeking for permanent part-time Mental Health Systems Navigator.

As part of multi-disciplinary team, this position is responsible for providing brief intervention, outreach and mental health supports to persons experiencing chronic or episodic homelessness. Dependent on participant requirements, the Mental Health Systems Navigator will partner with various programs within Siloam Mission and the community to streamline and administer individualized services. The responsibilities of this position also include coordinating and participating in assessments, crisis intervention, supportive counselling, group facilitation and referrals.

As part of Siloam Missions mandate to offer Christ’s compassionate love to all who are in need of support, healing, and recovery this role will work collaboratively from a trauma-informed, person-centered, strengths-based, and recovery-oriented lens to transform the lives of all those we encounter and love them as they journey toward their full expression of health, safety, and housing.

**KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Initiate engagement and build relationships with Siloam Mission’s Community members;
- Respond to crisis/emergent situations as required;
- Identify needs of individuals who are in crisis that may require; emergency support and/or referral based on the presenting circumstances;
- Conduct assessments and brief solution-focused interventions;
- Create and support risk management plans for complex client needs;
- Provide street-based education, resource information, complete referrals, and act as an advocate to ensure those accessing Siloam Mission are linked to mental health supports;
- Develop and implement educational programming and facilitate groups aimed at addressing challenges and needs specific to those experiencing homelessness, addictions, and or mental health concerns;
- Perform outreach duties covering the surrounding Siloam Mission area (i.e., outside the building, parking lots) assessing potential participants in need of support or services via foot patrol.

**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**
- Completion of a health or human service degree such as social work, psychology, counselling, or equivalent years of experience;
- Experience and demonstrated knowledge in mental health and/or addiction field;
- Experience in crisis intervention, completing assessments, service planning, and goal setting;
- Experience working in Housing First and an understanding of a variety of housing models including Housing First and Recovery-based;
**KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/BEHAVIORS**
- Knowledge of community resources for homelessness, health, mental health and substance use;
- Demonstrated understanding of the unique issues and barriers affecting those experiencing poverty and homelessness;
- Good understanding of colonization and its impact on Indigenous peoples;
- Ability to work within a harm-reduction framework;
- Ability to work from a trauma-informed perspective;
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Highly developed understanding of and proven ability to communicate appropriate professional boundaries;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to form relationships with marginalized individuals;
- Demonstrate maturity and excellent ability to work well in a team;
- A compassionate and empathetic outlook and ability to convey these characteristics in relationship with participants;
- Experienced user of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook;
- Experience in working with HIFIS4 and asset;
- Demonstrated knowledge of NVCI, ASIST, CRP/First Aid, Mental Health First Aid training (MHFA), Motivational Interviewing is preferred;
- Must be willing to travel between sites to provide scheduled programming.

**RELATIONSHIP**
- Works closely with Health Services staff, Community Members, Volunteers and various other departments of Siloam Mission.

**WORKING CONDITION**
- Hours of work: Friday - Sunday 11:30 am - 8:00 pm, with occasional weekend and evening hours. Overtime may be offered when necessary;
- Hazardous conditions could include potential violent outbursts from community members toward staff or other community members;
- Will travel between 300 Princess St and 210 Evanson St

**WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY**

The incumbent contributes to making the organization safe for community members and staff and recognizes the importance of reporting unsafe situations and participating in follow up reviews as a learning opportunity.
