The Camp Counsellor, Helps to develop and deliver engaging and inclusive summer camp experiences for children, teens, and adults with disabilities, focusing on mindful expressive arts programming. The camp counsellor assists in all aspects of the camp, including curriculum design, camper management, safety enforcement, and program quality, ensuring participants develop skills, form friendships, and prioritize mental wellness.

Key Responsibilities:

- Camp Counsellors will take part in program planning and program delivery.
- Through effective leadership and programming, enable children and youth to develop art making skills, expand their creativity, reduce stress, make friends, socialize and build self-esteem.
- Facilitate daily camp activities such as games, art making, movement/mindfulness, and crafts. Help to ensure programming is adapted to camper needs with regards to both inclusion and safety.
- Closely monitor camper conduct.
- Use growth mindset activities and responses to assist participants.
- Develop and write lesson plans in conjunction with other members of the summer team as needed.
- Serve as a liaison with parents of campers, reinforcing Art With A Heart Inc.'s customer service, diversity and inclusion (special needs, ethno-cultural, English as second language, socio-economic).
- Prepare and organize program equipment and supplies.
- Report any inventory shortages to the Camp Coordinator.
- Maintain positive, constructive relationships with other camp staff, programming team, digital media team, Executive Director, and volunteers with the goal of meeting camper needs in a harassment-free environment.
- Participate in orientation, training sessions, and team meetings including supporting the Supervisor or Manager where necessary.

AWAH is an arts-based organization that frequently engages with vulnerable communities, including seniors, individuals with special needs, those focused on mental health and wellness, and residents of at-risk and low-income areas. We collaborate with local community organizations that support these groups, aiming to develop a deeper understanding of working within the social services sector and enhancing our communication to create a "safe space" for these communities. Access to Registered Psychotherapists, Expressive Arts Therapists, and other team members with backgrounds in social services will facilitate the adoption and learning of the language used by these groups throughout this placement.

- Expressive Arts and general arts experience is an asset.
- Camp experience or program facilitation is an asset

Qualifications:

- Secondary School
- Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment, responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity.
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C
- Valid G-Class driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle is an asset

**This is a Government of Canada funded job through the Canada Summer Jobs program. The Applicant must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protections Act [S.C. 2001, c.27]; and is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.**

Pay: $16.55 per hour
