Whitby, Canada Art with a Heart Inc. Full time

The Community Recreation and Leisure Counsellors will deliver high quality expressive Arts Community Programming to a diverse audience of kids, youth, adults and seniors through Art With A Heart Inc.'s summer community programming.

Key Responsibilities:

- Take part in program planning and program delivery.
- Empower kids, youth, adult and senior participants to develop skills (technical and art), build connections or friendships, practice social skills, participant in mindfulness and mental wellness activities and arts-based programming, and help them to build self-esteem in an online and in-person environment
- Accountable for the well-being of participants, ensuring programming is safe, inclusive and high quality.
- Facilitate regularly scheduled programming activities
- Develop and write lesson plans.
- Attend daily pre

- program meetings
- Serve as a liaison with participants and their families, reinforcing Art With A Heart Inc.'s customer service, diversity and inclusion (special needs, ethno-cultural, English as second language, socio-economic) values.
- Prepare and organize program equipment and supplies.
- Organize and assist with set-up and clean-up of camp programming.
- Participate in orientation, training sessions including supporting the Community Arts Coordinator, Community Arts Program Supervisor or Programs Director where necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.

AWAH is an arts-based organization that frequently engages with vulnerable communities, including seniors, individuals with special needs, those focused on mental health and wellness, and residents of at-risk and low-income areas. We collaborate with local community organizations that support these groups, aiming to develop a deeper understanding of working within the social services sector and enhancing our communication to create a "safe space" for these communities. Access to Registered Psychotherapists, Expressive Arts Therapists, and other team members with backgrounds in social services will facilitate the adoption and learning of the language used by these groups throughout this placement.

- Good interpersonal skills and communications skills.
- Desire to learn.
- Expressive Arts and general arts experience is an asset.
- Mindfulness experience an asset.
- Camp experience or program facilitation is an asset.

Qualifications:

- Secondary School
- Experience in leading kids, youth, adults or senior programming or related experience is an asset
- Experience with Expressive art therapy programs is an asset.
- Not profit sector experience an asset.
- Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment, responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity.
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C
- Valid G-Class driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle is an asset

**This is a Government of Canada funded job through the Canada Summer Jobs program. The Applicant must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protections Act [S.C. 2001, c.27]; and is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.**
