It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.

The Social Systems Navigator is responsible for assisting and supporting clients while providing community support and referrals for patients and their families. The position provides client support in a variety of areas including housing, finance, transportation, support groups, community connections, and education.

Other key responsibilities of the position will include:

- Creating and providing activities for children, youth, adults, and families which will be appropriate for those dealing with health issues
- Providing clients with resources to assist in culturally appropriate services, such as pamphlets, web lists, phone numbers and transportation to events and services
- Determining, through intake and plan of care, the needs of clients and families
- Coordinating client support, activities, and services
- Developing, organizing, facilitating and/or providing referrals for cultural services
- Working closely and developing positive relationships with project stakeholders
- Contributing to and supporting service coordination with all partners and stakeholders
- Directing clients to translation and/or providing translation as may be requested
- Providing clients with resources and tools developed for program/service evaluation purposes
- Ensuring the program meets the mental, physical, emotional, and cultural needs of clients
- Participating in the development of services, events, and planning of Tungasuvvingat Inuit-specific activities and overall work

**Qualifications**

Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational and time management skills, communication (oral and written), group facilitation skills, and computer literacy skills (Microsoft Office) are necessary.

The ability to complete intake, plan of care, and evaluation forms with clients; be caring, supportive, motivated, and work independently; be sensitive to people dealing with illness and in stressful situations; and work occasional evenings and weekends is required.

Completion of post-secondary education in human services, health services or a related discipline and three years of relevant community support experience is preferred. Experience working with children, youth, and families and with non-Inuit organizations and health professionals is also preferred. The ability to communicate in Inuktitut is an asset.

An acceptable combination of related education and work experience may be considered.
