**Role Responsibilities**:

- Do you have a librarian’s soul and an explorer’s spirit? Do you thrill to the prospect of good data, well used? We are organizing for the future, and we need you._

**The Role**

You will lead a group of specialist staff responsible to implement data operations: preparing data tools (orchestration and warehouse) and structures (models and pipelines) to support the Department’s reporting and analysis needs, establishing standards and documentation for that infrastructure, and developing information products.

Through data operations, you will develop a master data management program for the Department, and work with the Director to develop, implement, and evolve larger data governance policies and structures.

To do this work, you will engage program areas to share data operations, management, and governance concepts and processes, and seek new opportunities to generate value from data.

You will approach this work with a systems perspective, developing collaborative relationships, and engaging others to build a more mature data management culture in Advanced Education.

**Responsibilities**:
**Note**: All these responsibilities involve collaborating with key business and IT partners and aligning with GoA guidelines where available.

**Effective data warehousing operations ensure data are accessible and usable.**
- Develop data models to meet Department ongoing reporting, digital services, and analysis needs.
- Establish best practice standard operating procedures across all functions so that data operations are effective and sustainable. This includes review and version control, cross-training, and documentation procedures.
- Establish processes to manage software changes, working with Service Alberta colleagues and external consultants as needed.
- Plan data operations priorities so that the right data in the right form is ready at the right time to support Department business activities.

**The Department’s master data management program makes core data consistent and linkable.**
- Develop and implement a master data management (MDM) framework describing MDM drivers and requirements, evaluating and assessing data sources, defining an architectural approach, and establishing stewardship and maintenance processes.
- Establish and maintain core master data management, working with key business and IT colleagues.
- Convene appropriate colleagues regularly to review compliance monitoring activities, and to diagnose and remediate any instances of non-compliance.

**Accessible information products meet Department needs.**
- Train Department staff in using (i) the data warehouse, and (ii) report-building and visualization tools so that program areas can build and maintain their own information products drawing on the data warehouse.
- Establish and maintain a Department information product catalogue allowing users to search for or browse existing information products.
- Engage continuously with digital services colleagues to plan, coordinate, and deliver data for new digital services.

**Qualifications**:
Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (for example, Data Science, Library Science, Computer Science) and four years of related experience.

Related experience or education will be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

**The Manager must have at least four years progressively responsible experience, including**:

- eliciting, understanding, and documenting the needs of clients
