Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role
**Schedule**: Shift 14/14 - 12 hour days
**Position Reports To**: Construction Superintendent
Position Overview
Reporting to the Construction Superintendent, this is a highly visible position with responsibility to provide results driven leadership to the construction department. This department is responsible for various earthworks scopes of work including, but not limited to the construction of water management structures (i.e.. dams, ditches, berms, haul and access roads, laydowns etc.)
Key areas of accountability include hands on participation in equipment resource management, scheduling, quality control, Reporting, coordination with Survey, Supervisors, and the Construction Superintendent.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Planning
Contribute to the development of construction schedules including materials and resource requirements. Ensure regular updates are maintained and all work is accounted for. Areas to include:
Tailings Management Area (TMA) short term dam raises
TMA Life of Mine (LOM) dam raise construction
Other earthworks related projects as required
Ability to set daily, weekly, and monthly plans as required to most efficiently manage priorities and achieve target completion dates. This should be done in conjunction with input from the supervisors and Superintendent
Incorporate engineering planning systems to properly allocate resources to ensure an efficient operation
Maintain up-to-date construction execution plans (CEP) throughout the project life cycle, ensuring compliance to the plan
Reporting
Prepare and contribute to the daily, weekly, and monthly reports, providing updates on construction progress
Support the construction Admin with clarifications for data entry or other record keeping as required
Cost Controls
Assist Project Controls with the cost breakdowns of each specific project
Provide support for budget and forecast preparation
Field Support
Oversee survey and quality control activities for work performed by the New Gold Construction crew to ensure the work is completed in accordance with the plans and design.
Ensure plans are created, communicated, and followed between all parties, (survey, supervision, coordinators)
Coordinate with Tailings Dam Technician to facilitate proper sequencing of instrument raises.
Engagement with contractors on site who are jointly working on the same project in a different yet intersecting capacity
Daily engagement and alignment with Mine Operations to ensure project plans can be met.
**Qualifications**:
A safety-first mindset
Team player who supports the team
3-5+ years working experience, preferably in a mining environment or similar industrial environment, with extensive experience in construction
Planning and cost management experience
Civil Engineering education as a P. Eng, EIT, Technician, Technologist are considered an asset
Leadership roles and operations management experience in related industries, with significant exposure to construction management
Working Conditions
Split time between office and field (driving and walking)
Minimal/occasional lifting required (typically less than 10kgs)
Team environment, with regularly scheduled and ad hoc meetings
Work Schedule
14 Days On / 14 Days Off
Tuesday travel in, Wednesday 1st working day
Tuesday travel out, end of shift
12 hours per day (flexible start/end between 6am/7am and 6pm/7pm)
