Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the position is responsible for developing, administering, implementing and evaluating Health, Safety, Environmental, and Sustainability services, including safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and environmental programs. This position is also responsible for employee advocacy in employee relations matters.

Universal Accountabilities
Responsible for the Medical Surveillance program for designated substances & control programs, including the maintenance of exposure records & record keeping. Also required are the purchasing, instruction in use, and distribution of employee personal protective equipment and all related health training.
Responsible for the Industrial Hygiene and the Hazardous Waste and Spill Control Programs, which includes sampling, equipment, maintenance, reporting, and record keeping.
Partner with consultants (e.g., physicians, kinesiologists) as needed to provide occupational health services; develop and maintain relationships with health practitioners and services agencies in the community.
Manage and keep current the Modified Work and Return to Work programs which include working with the employee, manager, and physician.
Identify employees’ health & wellness needs; develop objectives & implement programs in health promotion, maintenance, and rehabilitation. Make referrals to the Employee Assistance Program.
Participate in safety inspections, ergonomic assessments, and accident investigations.
Act as a resource to the appropriate personnel in developing and maintaining a safe work environment and recommend to management improvements in health and safety, explicitly advising management of any condition, activity or work practices within the operation that is inconsistent with legislation, corporate standards, or good occupational health and safety practices.
Provide counsel and advice to employees, supervisors, and management on their rights and obligations concerning health and safety. Promote understanding of health and safety issues pertinent to the facility’s operation.
Responsible for the maintenance of M.S.D.S. This includes the annual chemical audit, handling of chemicals, and instruction in using and handling chemicals.
Manage health and safety training programs and deliver training as required.
Provide emergency training to employees and maintain First Aid stations in the production area according to legislation.
Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental legislation.
Manage Hazardous Waste and Recycling Operations, including compliance with various Stewardship programs and the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA).
**Sustainability**:
Responsibility for supporting and/or directly managing Sustainability initiatives across the Organization.
Manage all Sustainability performance metrics and goals including all internal and external reporting.
Work with U.S. counterparts to share best practices.
**Environmental, Health and Safety Responsibilities**:
Work in compliance with Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Regulations.
Work safely as required, following environment, health and safety policies and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment, safety equipment/devices, and guarding and following safe work practices.
Immediately report workplace hazards or occupational injury/illness to a team leader/supervisor.
Report any missing or defective equipment or protective device that may be dangerous.
Report or raise any perceived workplace harassment, discrimination or violence concerns.
Actively participate in all health and safety initiatives and activities, including incident investigations, safety meetings and training.
Required Skills and Experience
University/health sciences degree with 3-5 years of occupational health experience, preferably in an industrial environment.
Solid knowledge of the Ontario Health & Safety Act, safe work practices, WSIB legislation, Human Rights Code, Health Disciplines Act, Employment Standards Act, Edgewell Health & Safety policies, Edgewell HR policies and practices, hazards and controls involved with any designated substances or dangerous goods in the facility, JSA and safety procedures for all production equipment, and quality standards.
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills at all levels within the organization and external contacts.
