**Description**: The Independent Electoral Commission [IEC] Chief Commissioner will be responsible for coordinating elections, by-elections, and referendums that adhere to all related policies, by-laws, and regulations of the Simon Fraser Student Society.

This is a temporary part time (8 - 28 hours per week) student position with a wage rate of $19.50/hour. The term of employment will be until May 31, 2024.

**Working Relationship/Reporting Structure**: The IEC Chief Commissioner leads and manages the 4 IEC Commissioners and directs their work (including but not limited to scheduling, timesheet processing, etc.)

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- The Chief Commissioner is responsible for the verification of oversight of Council General Elections and Council By-Elections
- The Chief Commissioner is responsible to assist election support requests submitted by Student Unions and Groups within the SFSS that need election support
- Providing support from where requested, and receiving and overseeing the results to the following elections including but not limited to: Councillors, Student Unions, Students of Caribbean and African Ancestry (SOCA), First Nations Student Association (FNSA), Disability and Neurodiversity Alliance (DNA), International Students Advocate, and other constituency groups, etc.
- Oversee the adherence to the SFSS By-Laws and Elections and Referenda Policies
- Maintain office hours and ensure that members are informed of these hours
- Supervise the IEC Commissioners (which includes but is not limited to creating schedules and assigning office hours)
- Write reports to present on a regular basis to the Policy, Research and Community Affairs Coordinator and the Campaigns & Mobilization Coordinator on the status and results of elections and/or referenda, and recommendations for elections and referendum process improvements
- Coordinate and support engagement initiatives
- Coordinate the administration of complaints and inquiries related to the SFSS elections and referendum in a timely manner
- Administer the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) budget
- Submit requests for staff support on behalf of the IEC
- Oversee the receipt of the results of Executive and Council elections
- Draft additional election rules to govern the conduct of the elections that does not conflict with the SFSS By-Laws or other SFSS regulations
- Collect and approve timesheets from IEC Commissioners on a biweekly basis and submit them to the SFSS Operations Organizer for payroll processing
- Other duties as required

**Required Skills and Experience**:

- The IEC Chief Commissioner shall be an active member in good standing of the Society
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills and attention to detail
