**The opportunity**:
CBC Windsor is looking for a skilled, enthusiastic journalist to fill a one-year contract position hosting our TV newscast.
- Every day at 6 p.m., people in Windsor-Essex tune in to our half-hour show to get the latest hyper-local breaking and enterprise news. As host, you are committed to making our television newscast energetic and informative. You pitch, write and host videos for streaming and social. From explainers to weekly Instagram roundups, you are passionate about finding new ways to tell stories. You regularly pitch, gather and file visual-heavy pieces that can live on audio and digital platforms, and make appearances on CBC News Explore and our Windsor Morning and Afternoon Drive radio shows.
- You are invested in Windsor-Essex and bring that commitment and familiarity to everything you do. You are interested in digging deep, explaining complex issues in straightforward ways, and giving our community the information it needs most.**Key Tasks**:

- Works with the producer team to plan the best possible lineup each day.
- Pitches stories and program ideas, including helping to script and execute the show.
- Keeps informed about the community and the issues impacting it, including building contacts and a knowledge base.
- Participates in public and/or community relations activities as appropriate, to promote the program(s) and/or the CBC as a whole.
- Hosts live breaking news specials / remote shows as needed.
- Gathers audio and visual material in the field and packages it to share with the audience on any required platforms.
- Familiarity with photo and video equipment - including Canon DSLR and C cameras, Sony PMW200 and various still cameras and mobile devices - and editing techniques and tools including Avid Media Composer, Photoshop, After Effects and iNews. Experience with MPX is an asset.

**As required, performs the following tasks**:

- Act as master of ceremonies, narrator or interviewer.
- Voice continuity for programs.
- Conduct research using a variety of sources.
- Edit program material.
- A university degree in a field relevant to the position or a combination of education and work experience relevant to the position.
- Proven journalism skills, strong news judgment, excellent general knowledge.
- Strong live on-air performance and excellent interview skills on a range of topics and themes, all kept to time.
- A love and understanding of Windsor-Essex.
- A strong desire to grow our audience and include new voices we haven’t heard from in our coverage.
- Curious, incisive and critical thinker.
- Engaging and intelligent on-air presence, showing a wide emotional range.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong writing skills that elevate live programming.
- A thorough understanding of and experience with social media tools.
- Ability to give and receive feedback within the context of a dynamic team.
- Strong news judgment and story sense.
