**Full Time Academic Position - CHEO/TOH/University of Ottawa**:
CHEO and The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) are jointly recruiting a full-time Neonatologist for the dual roles of Division Chief, Neonatology at CHEO and Division Head, Newborn Care at TOH. Together, we provide health care to women, pregnant persons, and newborns, including high-risk pregnancies and extremely preterm newborns while delivering outstanding patient care, leading research, and quality pediatric medical education.
The CHEO Department of Pediatrics and the TOH Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Newborn Care are both closely associated with their respective Research organizations and division members have academic appointments with the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine in either the Department of Pediatrics or Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. There is a vibrant RCPSC-approved, two-year Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine subspecialty residency training program, a 1 year targeted Neonatal Hemodynamics and targeted Echocardiography areas of focus competency as well as a 1 year training program in Neonatal Transport Medicine and a 1 year Neonatal Follow up & Development.
Across both organizations we have 18 dynamic, diverse, and highly engaged faculty members working at CHEO and TOH. In addition, the Division of Newborn Care (TOH) includes 12 pediatricians providing care in the Special Care Nursery of TOH-Civic Campus and newborn care in the mother-baby units at both campuses. Each of the 3 sites has a medical director/site chief. The Divisions are known for their collegiality, supportive environment, and collaboration.
CHEO is the only pediatric hospital in the region and its NICU (16 beds with 350 admissions per year) is the only level 3b NICU in the region, providing pediatric subspecialty and surgical care including cardiac surgery. The TOH General Campus is the regional designated perinatal center. With 750 admissions per year, the TOH NICU (15 level 3 and 10 level 2 beds) is the only tertiary neonatal intensive care unit in the region with a focus on the care of neonates born before 30 weeks gestation. TOH Civic Campus’ Special Care level 2c nursery provides care to infants 30 weeks or greater, with 700 admissions per year. There are over 6000 deliveries annually at TOH. CHEO’s Critical Care Transport Team is responsible for the delivery of critical care support and transport for all newborn infant across Eastern, South East and Northern Ontario (440,000 km2). The neonatologists in the Division of Neonatology (CHEO) provide immediate clinical telephone support for this unique and highly vulnerable patient population and manage ongoing patient care in partnership with the transport team.
The incumbent in this joint position oversees the divisional staff, the safety and quality of care provided in the respective units and the Division’s academic activity. They are also the operational medical co-lead and along with the administrative dyad partner are jointly responsible for operational planning and oversight.
