The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship is accountable for integrated water, land and natural resource management and cross-sector legislation, policy, and objective setting for land and marine environments. The Ministry has been created to support and enable natural resource sector wide integrated decision-making and provide a pathway to economic activity, environmental sustainability, advancing and balancing Indigenous reconciliation. Building on integrated land and resource management efforts in the past, the Ministry will seek to build a new vision for land and resource management in collaboration with natural resource ministries and First Nations that will embrace shared decision making on the land base. The Ministry will strengthen integration across the sector to mitigate, plan, respond and adapt our management practices, including a focus on effectively managing cumulative effects. The Ministry will advance cross ministry governance and bring together multidisciplinary teams from across government to address the most challenging, highest priority cross-sector initiatives and strategic priorities. The Ministry will be accountable for providing resource and geographically based information and analysis to support timely, evidence-informed policy and ensuring that decision-makers across the sector have the best information available upon which to base their decisions.

The Land Use Policy, Planning and Ecosystems Division works in partnership with Indigenous governments to advance modernized land use planning with community, stakeholder, and public input including operating and expanding Indigenous forums (e.g., Environmental Stewardship Initiative and Collaborative Stewardship Framework) and working with First Nations on collaborative stewardship of natural resources and monitoring of cumulative effects. This division chairs the Regional Management Committees and Indigenous Forums throughout the province ensuring alignment between provincial and regional priorities. This division is also responsible for conservation science, species and ecosystem policy, and coordinating provincial species and ecosystems at risk management and recovery actions across the province.

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Initiatives, the Land and Resource Coordinator supports taking an Area-Based Approach to managing a series of complex matters across the Natural Resource Sector. The Land and Resource Coordinator is responsible for facilitating the implementation of initiatives that require working with diverse teams and cross-sector coordination, including: conservation, modernized land use planning, and co-management with First Nations. This position supports and coordinates unique and complex natural resource projects, proposals and initiatives, and develops and maintains a broad range of internal and external stakeholder relationships to resolve complex stewardship issues and support land/resource management decisions. Additionally, this position will be responsible for supporting the Regional Management Committees and Indigenous Forums which are key pathways to developing and implementing cross-sector solutions to various strategic initiatives.
