**HOURS**:Monday to Friday, 4:30pm to 9:30 pm
**JOB SUMMARY**:
Working under the direction of the classroom instructor, the English Language Assistant provides post-secondary students with
the opportunity to practice their English-language skills in our Evening Administrative Assistant and Hospitality & Hotel
Management Certificate Programs.

**RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**:

- As the English Language Assistant, you will be:
- Supporting and reinforcing lessons taught by the classroom instructor by providing supplemental one-on-one or small
- group instruction specifically with students requiring greater English language support;- Supporting students in independent study assessments, presentation preparation, test/exam study
- Working closely with the program instructor to identify students who require support and to develop appropriate
- strategies.- Encouraging students to practice English, using authentic, real-life situations related to the field of study.
- Support a respectful and engaging learning environment.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development days.
- Other duties, as assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE)**:

- Have excellent English language skills, both oral and written.
- Respect In School or equivalent training is required.
- Coursework in pedagogy and teaching methodology.
- Experience working with Multilingual Learners.
- Knowledge of language acquisition strategies.
- Knowledge of literacy intervention strategies.
- Demonstrate cultural competency and sensitivity.
- Knowledge of community languages (Mandarin, Spanish, Punjabi, etc.) and/or cultures an asset.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Knowledge and proficiency in using technology-based programs and apps.
- Willing to work in the evenings.
