Toronto, Canada Urban Forest Associates Inc. Full time

Urban Forest Associates Inc. (UFORA) is an ecological consulting and urban forestry contracting firm, working to restore and maintain natural habitats in the Greater Toronto Area since 1993.

We are seeking an experienced person for a position with the company starting immediately. There is one position to fill on the field crew, starting at $24.00/hr (40 hour work week at most times but longer in April to June). The crew will work mainly Monday to Friday 8 AM - 4:30 PM, as well as some evenings and weekends at times. Flexibility in work schedule will be required to accommodate volunteer events. The work is mainly outdoors in all weather. A moderate to high level of physical ability is required.

Work will be a combination of the following duties:

- Controlling invasive plants using various methods.
- Planting native trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants, both independently and with volunteers.
- Preparing sites for future restoration work using various methods.
- Caring for plants in the nursery.
- Maintaining planted material through watering, mulching, weeding, and pruning.
- Monitoring planted vegetation for survival success and maintenance needs.
- Leading volunteer community and school planting events.
- Assisting in arboricultural assessments of trees and conducting plant inventories.
- Cleaning up dumped materials in ravines.
- Installing erosion-control materials on slopes and riverbanks, and building trails.
- Collecting and cleaning seed.
- Operating and maintaining various equipment including van, pick-up truck, brush cutter, chain saw, hand tools, water pump and other associated equipment.
- Keeping records of tasks performed including planting, maintenance, and monitoring activities.
- Performing other tasks related to the work as assigned.

**Qualifications**:
1. Experience in natural area management and/or related disciplines including ecological restoration, gardening, landscaping, landscape architecture, or forest regeneration techniques.
2. Post-secondary education in Ecology, Forestry, Arboriculture, Environmental Science or related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
3. Ability to identify native and non-native plants and plant communities of Southern Ontario, or ability to learn species identification.
4. Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License, Class “G”.
5. Ability to work cooperatively with others and community volunteers.
6. Ability to perform manual labour and safely lift weights up to 30 kilograms (70 pounds) unassisted.
8. Valid First Aid and CPR certification would be an asset.
9. Excellent interpersonal skills including written and oral communication skills and report writing would be an asset.
10. Own vehicle is an asset but not necessary.
11. Be fully COVID-19 vaccinated as per the Ministry of Health (MOH)’s definition.

Pay: From $24.00 per hour
