What’s the Role?

As a Product Manager, you lead the acceleration of our proprietary branded pet portfolio. You own the end-to-end commercialization process of new products - ensuring our strong portfolio of brands continue to grow. This customer (DPL) and product obsessed role will understand market trends and utilize wide range of data to identify new product development opportunities to improve sales, penetration, and profitability. Leading a team, this Product Manager will be working cross-functionally to ensure our products are the highest quality, our packaging adheres to our brand guides, our launches are consistently on time, and our launch communication is impactful for all of our devoted pet lovers. Reporting to the Director of Proprietary Brands (Hardlines & Specialty), the Product Manager is a key leader in the organization, communicating regularly with senior management to gain alignment for brand portfolios while building a culture of innovation and empowerment.

Essential Duties

Insights
- Intimate understanding of categories being led - regularly monitoring consumer data, gathering competitive intelligence and building a strong network of quality-focused vendors.
- Takes a solution-based approach to performance reporting, indicating root causes and clear action plans.

Strategic Thinking
- Develop a holistic, category-strategies for existing product categories including recommending merchandising, pricing, promotions, and marketing executions to ensure continued growth and maximize sales potential
- Shared responsibility with Merchandising for brand sales, margin performance and achievement of product launch targets.
- Utilize available financial & management information systems to monitor sales results, profitability and recommend actions to improve in market product performance.

Product
- Develop rationale and business cases for new product development including financial feasibility, supplier selection, product and packaging features, sales projections, pricing recommendations, marketing, merchandising and promotions.
- Manage, and maintain product adherence to brand positioning, brand guardrails, and customer value proposition to drive brand loyalty and equity.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with manufacturers to ensure proper execution of product launches and optimum service levels are being met.

Collaboration
- Build relationships and initiate processes (or refinement of processes) with internal and external partners that facilitate cross-functional synergy and collaboration.
- Work in collaboration with Category Managers to understand category strategy and set appropriate product strategies and roadmaps to maximize Private Brand penetration, market share, sales volume & profitability of assigned product categories.
- Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders throughout the supply chain to ensure effective collaboration and execution of Private Brand strategies and plans.

Experience & Education:

- 5+ years of Packaged Goods, Brand Marketing/Product Development/Merchandising or related field.
- Strong analytical skills - reporting and assessing sales performance and building action-oriented strategies and tactics.
- A proven leader with self-confidence, and a solid track record of accomplishments in challenging environments.
- Proactive thinker and doer - anticipate issues before they arise, has a strong pride of ownership to see projects through end to end.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Adept in storytelling, presenting and influencing.
- Strong project management skills. Adept at working cross-functionally and collaboratively.
- Ability to resolve situations with colleagues where there may be some level of conflict, stress, or uncertainty.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment. Ability to multi-task and prioritize with a high sense of urgency.
- Post-Secondary education with a focus in Business or Marketing. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Private Brands experience with a retailer is a plus. Experience in Hardlines & Specialty pet products a plus.
