**Description**:
The University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) is the second-largest division of the University of Toronto, Canada’s preeminent research institution. Since 2021, Sealings and Lives of Maresha (SLiM) is a training ground for undergraduate and graduate students and an active research project whose aim it is to conserve, edit and publish over 1,000 seal impression from the archaeological site of Hellenistic Maresha in modern-day Israel. The research team consists of an international team from Canada, the UK and Israel and is currently funded by a SSHRC Insight grant.

The incumbent will work in the Department of Historical Studies at UTM. They will report directly to Professor Boris Chrubasik. They will work with the projects PI, collaborators, consultants and Research Assistants to set future directions, build local and global collaborations and networks, and manage a range of individual projects effectively.
- Assist with planning, scheduling, executing and monitoring collaborative work for SLiM.
- Engage in primary research across a range of projects
- Program workshops and symposia
- Organize international trips to conduct field research and build partnerships
- Facilitate introductions between researchers locally and globally
- Support staff, research assistants and students as required
- Maintain project records

The incumbent will be expected to perform research with a high degree of independence, and will design, direct, execute, analyse and present in written and oral forms novel investigative studies that build and draw on the incumbent’s academic experience.

**Minimum Qualifications**

**EDUCATION**:

- Ph.D. in a relevant area of Classics, Archaeology, Art history, or Near Eastern Studies.

**EXPERIENCE**:

- At least three (3) years of demonstrated expertise in postdoctoral research, with expertise in comparative study of ancient cultures, Mediterranean or near eastern archaeology, ancient history, and/or related fields
- Experience as a project/team lead required
- Experience supervising small, interdisciplinary teams of individuals in a university environment
- Experience in providing project management support.

- Ability to lead a project and co-ordinate research teams;
- Supervisory skills including effective teambuilding and the ability to establish positive working relationships and foster collaboration to achieve common goals;

- Strong organizational, decision-making and resourcefulness, judgement and diplomacy

**This is a 3-year term opportunity at 60% FTE with the possibility of extension/renewal.**
