Advancement Services & Operations is a service-oriented and collaborative team that helps enable UA’s mission by providing high-quality, client-focused support and tools to all of our stakeholders in the areas of human resources; budgeting/finance; gift processing and biographical records; IT, data and systems; research and prospect analytics; and administration for the Office of the Vice-President.

Prospect Research and Analytics within Advancement Services & Operations provides key insight, strategy and support to our advancement efforts across the University. The incumbent is responsible for supporting UA’s prospect research and management program driven by industry best practices in analytics to ensure the maximum potential of McMaster’s prospect pool. The incumbent partners with colleagues to evaluate progress related to identified prospects, and facilitates communication and management related to work with prospects across our Faculties and units.

**Job Summary**

The Research and Prospect Analytics Specialist works to develop strategies and programs to build an effective pipeline of potential donors to McMaster. The Specialist will build a broad and deep understanding of fundraising metrics to provide information that supports the management of prospects through the development cycle.

The position supports and monitors relationships between prospective donors and the University, and supports research activities to further grow that pool of prospective donors. The Specialist provides colleagues with accurate historical records of the University’s relationship with donors, as well as information to support future plans. The role also provides data and reports which inform performance measurement metrics for fundraising positions.

The incumbent has responsibility for the maintenance and monitoring of prospect management systems. The incumbent plays a critical role in analyzing prospect portfolios and providing accurate records regarding the status of the portfolios, contacts, movement through solicitation cycles, and related prospecting activity.

- Working strategically with the Development (i.e. fundraising) team, and colleagues within Advancement Services & Operations, provide analytics and data to target the right individuals/organizations, for the right ask amount, for the right allocations, at the right time. Identify new opportunities and flag any issues for senior Development leaders.
- Provides consistent high-quality research used to develop accurate solicitation strategies. Provides background information on a wide variety of prospective donors to McMaster in pursuit of private revenue to further the University’s mission and priorities.
- Independently and proactively identifies and qualifies prospective individual, corporate and foundation donors consistent with the University’s priorities and objectives through data mining, wealth screening and other ad-hoc research.
- Ensuring a balanced portfolio approach (i.e. a proper balance in different stages), not only for individual fundraisers but also for all fundraisers combined. Review portfolios and raise any issues with the Clearance Committee.
- Ensuring continued alignment of research and prospect management practices with key metrics.
- Support a donor-centred approach to continue to bring research and prospect management activities for different Faculties and units together.
- Running queries to gather data, as well as generating and disseminating data from various reports.
- Providing training on prospect research, management and clearance to Development team members.
- Work with Advancement Services & Operations team to ensure coding of requests is managed according to best practice and is clear and straightforward for Development team members.
- Develop and maintain thorough prospect management system procedures and guidelines for users.
