Compensation Range

$4,688.67 - $6,754.00 CAD Monthly

Job Summary

The Coordinator, Indigenous Graduate Initiatives is a member of the Student Academic Support team within the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral studies. Under the direction of the Specialist, Indigenous Graduate Initiatives, the Coordinator will be responsible for developing and supporting new and existing initiatives that advance strategic priorities to enhance Indigenous graduate student success. In addition, the Coordinator work collaboratively with the First Nations House of Learning; Supporting Aboriginal Graduate Enhancement (SAGE) and other units and student organizations across campus to develop and implement activities to support Indigenous Graduate students, and encourage community building between Indigenous graduate students and the university. This role works in a team environment contributing to developing a culture of belonging, connection and community for Indigenous graduate students at UBC.

Organizational Status

The Coordinator, Indigenous Graduate Initiatives, will report to the Specialist, Indigenous Graduate Initiatives, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. They will work collaboratively with staff, faculty, and student organizations across campus (i.e. SAGE, Enrolment Services, First Nations House of Learning). They will also work collaboratively with colleagues from various teams within G&PS including Student Academic Support, Awards, Communication, and Recruitment. Overall, they will work in collaboration with a variety of units on campus to support the strategic priorities as outlined in UBC's strategic plan, Shaping UBC's Next Century; the Indigenous Strategic Implementation Plan; and Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies' Strategic Plan.

Work Performed

Program coordination & project management
- Coordinate the planning, delivery and evaluation of key G&PS Indigenous Student programs including
- 1) the weeklong Indigenous Graduate Student Summer Institute;
- 3) on-going events and workshops to further enhance Indigenous Graduate student’s support, learning, development, and sense of community.
- Establish and maintain a system for project managing multiple programs and initiatives; Tracks and manages milestones, timelines, expenses, resources, etc.
- Contributes to the ongoing tracking and evaluation of G&PS programs and services for Indigenous Graduate Students and documents results
- Seek student input on current and proposed initiatives, both by liaising with existing student groups and by arranging specific-purpose focus groups as needed.

Communications and Campus Outreach
- Work with G+PS Communications Team in the creation of web communications and marketing materials to inform, guide, and support prospective and current Indigenous graduate students, programming
- Assist in ongoing maintenance of the Indigenous student section on the G+PS website, including updating content, communicating, and promoting special events and opportunities for Indigenous students, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date information.
- Coordinate with campus partners to ensure G&PS programs and services are communicated through their channels and networks
- Foster a sense of community through:

- Creating networking opportunities for Indigenous graduate students.
- Organizing regular social events for Indigenous graduate students.
- Work with various campus partners to develop and inform existing workshops and seminars to support Indigenous graduate student success.
- Supports First Nations House of Learning programs for Indigenous students at the First Nations Longhouse, such as orientation and Indigenous Collegia.

Special Projects and Initiatives
- Provide input and support towards new initiatives and pilot programs related to Indigenous graduate student success.
- Work collaboratively with Enrolment Services, First Nations House of Learning, and other related units on special projects as needed.
- Collaborate with Supporting Aboriginal Graduate Enhancement (SAGE) in expanding access to the program across
