**Position Summary**:
The Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation’s Education Department is seeking an Tlucha Language and
Culture Worker for the Tlucha Child Care Centre. The Tlucha Language and Culture Worker
reports to the Tlucha Daycare Manager and will be responsible for teaching students the Tla
- o-qui-aht language and introducing cultural activities that strengthen children’s sense of
identity, culture, and history. The position aims to foster a learning environment among
students and teaching staff based on Tla-o-qui-aht values, culture, and traditions.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Provides language instruction for the whole class and small groups;
- Shares cultural knowledge and provides a variety of cultural experiences and activities;
- Includes Land Based Learning;
- Develops teaching resources in collaboration with the Language team and Tlucha staff;
- Contributes to the development of an annual language learning plan and curriculum in
- collaboration with the language department;
- Integrate language and culture into all aspects of learning at Tlucha Daycare
- Assists all daycare staff in learning Tla-o-qui-aht language and cultural skills;
- Maintains records related development of program;
- Meets regularly with the Language team for Language Planning;
- Participate in daycare events, identifying opportunities for cultural activities, events,
- and field trips;
- Meets expectations and provides support for student behaviour using our Tla-o-qui-aht

values: hišukʔiš c̓awaak (everything is one), iisaak (respect), haahuupa (traditional
teachings and knowledge), healthy individuals and families, communication, huu-piits
- tulth (helping one another), ʔuuʔaałuk (taking care of);
- Maintain confidentiality of all matters relating to the students/families enrolled at our

daycare and adhere by the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation Confidentiality Agreement;
- Adhere to Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation Human Resource Policy and Tlucha Daycare Policy;
- Collaborative management, development and maintenance of a positive learning

environment;

**Requirements**:

- Able to speak and write in Tla-o-qui-aht, required;
- Post Secondary Certificate or Diploma in Language Fluency;
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, please identify
- in cover letter and/or resume;
- Familiar with a variety of language immersion delivery strategies and methods such as
- TPR, TPR-Story Telling, Where Are Your Keys;
- Successful Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector search required.

**Skills**
- Working knowledge of and experience in Tla-o-qui-aht language, and culture;
- Self-motivated with an ability to work independently, in a team environment, and with
- mínimal supervision.
- Possesses strong communication and collaboration skills, demonstrating ability to
- work effectively with children, families, and daycare providers.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, instruct and evaluate learning abilities;
- The ability to work effectively in a team setting daily in the classroom.
- Computer and technology skills are an asset;
- Current valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s license and drivers abstract and a reliable vehicle an
- asset.
- Eligibility for BC College of Teachers certificate considered an asset;
