Position Summary
This position is responsible for providing scale clerk duties including providing customer service, tracking weights, directing customers, organizing scale tickets, processing commercial loads and related paperwork; including bills of lading, setting up and adjusting account information and using related computer programs and equipment. The position also performs general grounds keeping and plant operations duties including minor maintenance, grass cutting/trimming, waste control, and forklift operation.

Greet and direct users to proper unloading areas upon entry to the Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC) and respond to inquiries from the public in a professional and courteous manner.

Weigh vehicles in and out of the site and track weight information from scale to the computer system ensuring weigh scale tickets are maintained in an orderly manner for record keeping and invoicing/rebating purposes.

Assist with delivery and setup of multi-residential recycling systems and set up new commercial accounts, recycling vehicles, market buyers/brokers, process changes keeping Solid Waste clerk and Waste Services Coordinator apprised:

- Issue scale tickets to recycling drivers, commercial customers and bills of lading for shipping recyclables.
- Tracks tonnage data on the scale software for the Waste Services Coordinator.
- Provide grounds-keeping services to the site including grass cutting, trimming bushes, painting, litter collection to the roadway and adjacent properties and remove snow from sidewalk and step/pathway/scale.
- Operate the forklift in a safe manner to unload recycling depot bins, move bins and cages at the Household Hazardous Waste facility, and unload recycling boxes, tote’s, green bins and other supplies that may be delivered to the site on occasion.
- Stock the front administrative office with recycling boxes and green bins as required.
- Participate in the pit clean-out activities at the Material Recovery Facility.
- Assist the Recycling & Hazardous Waste Specialist with minor plant maintenance activities.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Competencies
High School (Grade 12) diploma or equivalent.

Forklift Certification.

Obtain and maintain a valid class “G” license.

Solid Waste experience an asset.

Propane handling, Fall Arrest, and Confined Space Training an asset.

Experience using computerized weigh scales considered an asset.
Skills, Abilities, Work Demands
Strong communication, customer service and organizational skills.

Proficient with MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Ability to work indoors and outdoors.
