**Summer Camp Inclusion Facilitator**

40 hours per week (30 hours for first week of training)

Hours: camp hours are 7:30 am - 5:00 pm (your shift hours may vary)

Wage: $16.50 per hour

Status: Contract from June 26 to August 25, 2023

Location: YWCA Cambridge Shade's Mills Summer Camp

**Requirements**:

- Minimum of 2 years working with children with special needs and behaviours
- Reliable, quick thinker, problem solver
- Must come with experience using Behaviour Management strategies and tools effectively
- Must be able to meet the job description listed below
- Standard First Aid with Infant/Child CPR
- Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
- High Five training
- to attend an orientation in June before the start of your contract

**DAY CAMP INCLUSION FACILITATOR**

**JOB SUMMARY**: The Inclusion Facilitator works in partnership with the Day Camp Director, YWCA Inclusion Facilitator, all other camp staff and volunteers to provide a positive camp experience for individual children with special needs.

**Responsibility**:
**Supervise identified campers with special needs and provide support to the camp team as required.**

**Duties**:
1. Administer first aid when required.

2. Complete an Incident Report in the event of a serious occurrence.

3. Take responsibility for supervision of identified campers at all times including but not exclusive to: moving from one activity/area to another, at the waterfront and the playground areas.

4. Be available at all times to respond to behaviour challenges as they arise.

5. Be ready to step in to cover breaks or shifts as required.

6. Familiarize yourself with each camper’s inclusion plan and implement strategies when required.

7. Facilitate interaction with other campers.

**Responsibility**:
**Responsible for a high quality day camp program for individuals and groups.**

**Duties**:
1. Work together as a Day Camp team to develop goals for the summer.

2. Adapt the program of activities planned where necessary to ensure the inclusion of all children.

3. Provide one on one activities as/if appropriate.

4. Ensure all campers are included in all activities and are enjoying a meaningful experience.

**Responsibility**:
**Develop positive and supportive communications and relationships with the children, camp staff and volunteers, Shade’s Mills staff and the community.**

**Duties**:
1. Provide input to the Camp Director for the mid-summer and end of summer report.

2. Work with the counselors to plan and implement a well rounded, high quality camp program for all children.

3. Establish and maintain a respectful relationship with each camper.

4. Foster a commitment to the Day Camp team and promote the Camp program in the community.

5. Document and report suspected child abuse.

6. Follow appropriate behaviour management strategies to ensure the most positive camp experience for all.

**Responsibility**:
**Responsible for open communication with families of children with special needs.**

**Duties**:
1. Make contact with the family of each child assigned to you over the summer prior to their camp session. (telephone call and/or home visit)

2. Have a daily conversation with the parent/guardian about their child’s day.

3. Ensure each family completes an inclusion program evaluation form at the end of their child’s week.

4. Handle any concerns raised by families regarding their child’s camp experience.

**Accountability**:
Accountable to the Behavior and Inclusion Supervisor, Day Camp Director, and the Director of Child Care Services.

**Educational Requirements**:
Ontario Secondary School Diploma

**Experience**:
Previous experience working with children

Experience programming for children an asset

Experience working with special populations an asset

**Skills**:
Skills in behaviour management, team work, collaboration

Good communication skills

Interests in areas such as sports, art, music, drama and the environment

**Other Requirements**:
Clear, current vulnerable criminal record check

Valid Standard First Aid and CPR level C or HCP certificate

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 9 weeks

**Salary**: $16.50 per hour

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
