Laboratory Technician I / Administrative Assistant

The BioScision Group of Companies is looking for a Laboratory Technician I / Administrative Assistant. Due to the nature of some of the samples processed in the laboratory, applicants must be okay with strong scents (cannabis, agricultural, various bodily fluids). Must be able to pass WHMIS training and a criminal record check.

**Reporting and Supervision**
- This position is supervised by the Laboratory Manager
- This position reports directly to the Laboratory Manager, Chief Science Officer/Head of

Laboratories, and the Chief Financial Officer

**Key Responsibilities**
- Receive and accession samples as they arrive at the laboratory
- Data entry of sample information into the electronic laboratory notebook
- Sample preparation including aliquoting and weighing
- Sample milling and moisture content analysis
- Participate in the training program for laboratory assays (microbiology, analytical chemistry)
- Maintain and review laboratory records, documents and inventory
- Communicate with clients and triage questions/inquiries/invoices/payment/concerns to the appropriate department
- Photography, videography, and social media marketing
- Function as part of the laboratory team to maintain high quality standards and reduce turn around times
- Ensure that safety guidelines are followed at all times
- Operate with respect to the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) and company/client privacy policies
- Other duties as required/assigned

**General laboratory duties**
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory and workstation
- Daily/Weekly laboratory cleaning duties
- Washing laboratory glassware and tools
- Prepare, organize and store all chemicals and reagents accordingly
- General and chemical waste disposal
- Destruction of completed controlled samples
- Other duties as required/assigned

**Qualifications**

**Education**:

- Diploma/degree in a field related to microbiology and/or analytical chemistry and/or quality control

**Experience**:

- Experience in a laboratory environment is required
- Experience as an administrative assistant or similar administrative/data entry support position is required
- Experience with customer/client communication is an asset
- Experience with bookkeeping is an asset

Skills And Abilities:

- Strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills are required
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
- Maintain confidentiality with all information entrusted to the position (PHIA/privacy policies)

**Compensation**
- Full-time permanent position; 40.00 hours/week; typically, Monday-Friday 8:30-5:00; some evenings and/or weekends may be required from time-to-time
- Starting wage commensurate with education and experience
- 4% vacation paid or option to accrue
- Enrollment in the company’s benefits plan (Extended Health & Dental)
