**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Recreation Technician: Community Support Services**

Reporting to the Community Support Services Program Manager, the Recreation Technician works collaboratively with the Adult Day Program Team and larger Community Support Team and is accountable to the Board of Directors. The Adult Day program provides client centred programming in a supervised group setting. Clients include the frail and elderly and/or those living with varying levels of cognitive or physical impairment.This service recognizes and respects each client as an individual and supports clients to achieve and maintain their maximum level of functioning, to prevent early or inappropriate institutionalization and provides respite to their caregivers. Responsibilities include:

- Ensuring the provision of direct services in both official languages to eligible clients.
- Actively participating as a member of the Community Support Team and multiservice Centre
- Performing administrative functions.
- Liaising with community partners as identified in work plan or assigned by the Community Support Program Manager.

**Responsibilities**

**Ensure the provision of direct services**:

- Design and plan group programming that will stimulate clients, cognitively, socially creatively and physically by building upon the clients’ abilities and interests.
- Co-design and plan individual activities that recognize varying levels of ability among clients.
- Prepare program materials, schedule external guests and set up daily activities.
- Work directly with clients during program hours.
- Provide clients with a welcoming, compassionate and safe environment which encourages, and enhances the individual’s sense of self-identity and self-worth.
- Maintain a clean, and safe work environment.
- Respond to emergencies identified by clients, PSWs, volunteers and/or caregivers.
- Document and report changes in clients’ level of participation, health, mobility, cognition etc. to Adult Day Program Workers.
- Participate in case consultations with a client centred approach and solutions focus.
- Provide input into client care plans in collaboration with Adult Day Program Workers, clients and care partners.

**Team Related Activities**:

- Participate at internal meetings and trainings.
- Participate in Centre-wide activities.
- Inform and update the Program Manager/Program Coordinator on a regular basis on program activities and issues.
- Support team members and other Centre programs / initiative as required.
- Offer in-service training to colleagues.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and volunteers to promote client centred approach to care.
- Provide training and support to students and volunteers as required.
- Ensure the annual review of service procedures.
- Actively promote a respectful, collaborative and healthy workplace.
- Uphold the Mission, Vison and Values of the Centre.

**Administrative Duties**:

- Maintain accurate client & volunteer records, information files and databases and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to protect client confidentiality.
- Prepare circulation material, photocopying, faxing and conducting mail outs, as required.
- Participate in the evaluation of the program, assuring the annual distribution and completion of the client-satisfaction survey.
- Coordinate and cheque requisitions associated with programming when required.
- Track and enter attendance statistics daily and project service entries for clients and volunteers.

**Liaising with community partners**:

- Participate as a staff member for public relations and fundraising events and media contact, as required.
- Maintain formal and informal links with stakeholders.
- Attend service-related community or coalition meetings as required or assigned by program manager.

**Qualifications**:

- Degree/Diploma in any one of the following: Health, Recreation and Leisure, Social Services, Social Sciences, Gerontology or equivalent.
- Demonstrated understanding of the unique needs of seniors and adults with physical disabilities.
- Knowledge of types of dementia and cognitive impairments.
- Experience in a health or social service setting.
- Experience with the delivery of group activities or programming.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving ability, initiative and sense of creativity.
- Ability to display non-judgment, compassion, and calm.
- Professional attitude and ability to handle sensitive issues and information tactfully, and confidentially.
- Strong orientation to delivering exceptional customer service.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly establish rapport and trust with vulnerable clients, their caregivers and families and internal and external stakeholders
- Knowledge of MS Office Applications, and experience working within a Client Information Management System.
- First Aid / CPR is an asset.
- Fluency in oral
