**Position Summary**
- This position is responsible for teaching students in an assigned field of study using a diverse set of instruction methods and tools. The position develops curriculum, prepares teaching materials, provides assessments of students’ progress. It ensures the proper stewardship of college facilities, equipment and other inventories. The position is also responsible for upholding the College’s policies and procedures and for participating in meetings and events and on committees.**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Teaches students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, shop sessions, seminars, case studies, field assignments and independent or group projects.
- Develops curriculum and prepares teaching materials and outlines for courses including audio visual and web-related materials where appropriate.
- Prepares, administers and marks papers, tests, exams and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students’ progress. Provides detailed feedback on student performance.
- Assists and provides support to students and potential students by advising on program curricula and career decisions.
- Provides individualized or group tutorial or remedial instruction to students who require it.
- Maintains effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials, software and tools.
- Arranges for and supervises independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work or hands-on training.
- Adheres to VCC policies and procedures including being available to students and maintaining confidentiality of student information.
- Participates in departmental and college meetings and events. Consults with other College departments and may serve on committees concerning matters such as budgets, curriculum revision, and course and certificate or diploma requirements.
- Performs other related duties as required.

**Area Hiring Criteria**
- Bachelor of Arts (B.A) or Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) with a focus in English. Master’s degree preferred.
- Teacher training certification or Instructor’s Diploma or equivalent.
- Recent experience* teaching Adult Basic Education (ABE) in a team-teaching, individualized, self-paced setting.
- Recent experience* with collaborative curriculum development and assessment, producing modularized instructional materials, online learning, and holistic marking.
- Prepared to teach all the following courses simultaneously, and be particularly skilled in teaching grammar, paragraph and essay writing, reading comprehension, vocabulary development and literary analysis:

- ENGL 0741,0751,0861,0871,0981,0991
- RSSK 0716, 0816, 0916
- WRSK 0726, 0826, 0926, 1076
- GED prep, LPI prep CCAC 1084, LSA 0758
- Recent experience(**) teaching Adult Basic Education (**ABE**) intermediate, advanced, and provincial level courses.**:

- Demonstrated ability to communicate, in an empathetic and supportive way, with a diverse range of adult learners.
- Demonstrated variety of teaching methods, strategies and techniques, and be able to match these to the learning needs of self-paced Adult Basic Education (ABE) students.
- Be available to teach a six (6) hour day, hours to be determined according to department requirements.
- Superior command of spoken and written English.
