OCAD University acknowledges the ancestral territories of the _Mississaugas_ of the Credit, the Haudenosaunee, the Anishinaabeg and the Huron-Wendat, who are the original owners and custodians of the land on which we work, _stand_ and create._
OCAD University, Canada’s largest and oldest art and design university, is a vibrant community of bold, curious and compassionate artists, designers and scholars who are imagining and creating a joyful, equitable and sustainable world. The University is an internationally renowned hub for art, design, digital media, research, innovation and creativity, and arts administration. It embraces collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches to change-making through art, design-thinking curriculum and research, making OCAD U a local, regional, national and global leader in art and design.
It is an exciting time to join the OCAD U community. The University is at a key stage in its institutional transformation, with the implementation of its Academic and Strategic Plan and guiding principles—driving positive impact, decolonization, indigenization, and equity, environmental sustainability, emerging as a vibrant hub, student-centered approaches, innovation in learning, teaching, and research, and financial stewardship.
**Project Details**:
This project will create and develop a participant-driven unconference that lays the groundwork for the creation and dissemination of resources and materials designed for accessible pedagogy in art and design post-secondary educational contexts. Concepts from the Transformative Access Unconference (TAU) are drawn from what happens when critical pedagogy, neurodivergence, disability, art, and design merge to transform and multiply what counts as knowledge. The deliverables of TAU will consist of edited and curated materials made by invited OCAD U faculty. Our unconference and the materials generated will provide an opportunity for members of the OCAD U community to gather and harness diverse knowledges committed to transforming the terms by which accessibility is defined. The unconference aims to mobilize emergent propositions of knowledge creation that decenter neurotypical ways of knowing—forging other ways of imagining and activating accessibility at OCAD U, and in art and design education in Canada.
**Responsibilities**:
- Working under the supervision of Dr. Maria Belén Ordóñez and Dr. Laura Thrasher, the Research Assistant will support the coordination of project’s research goals and objectives
- Compiling and curating literature review (i.e. disability studies, queer crip, alter-pedagogies) using a reference management tool.
- Note taking at meetings
- Review of TAU participants request for materials, purchasing and processing receipts of TAU materials.
- Assisting with the organization of meetings, room bookings, accessibility and equipment for planned unconference in May 2025
- Assisting with the organization of unconference materials and documentation post-unconference.
- Creating and curating a social media presence for TAU that promotes intersections between Disability Studies, art, neurodivergence, pedagogy and themes related to the evolving project.
- Establishing communication with other OCAD U social media accounts.
- Participating in the provision of safe and secure environment for all members of the University community and its facilities
**Qualifications**:
- Completion of a relevant undergraduate/graduate degree or current enrollment in a relevant graduate program and/or equivalent training and professional experience in Queer/Disability Studies. Creative practice is an asset.
- Strong digital organizational skills (Excel, Microsoft office, Centre Suite), interpersonal, oral and written communications
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity and experience promoting a respectful work and learning environment for students, staff and faculty
**Hours of Work**: 40 hours over the period of January 2025 to March 31, 2025. Approximate calculation from Jan 6 - March 28, at 3 hours per week.
