The Employee Relations Specialist provides on-going support to the Employee Relations team by performing

advanced, diversified and confidential functions, in support of the strategic initiatives of the department,

including interacting with human resources staff, managers and unions at each of the Providence Care locations.

The Employee Relations Specialist will coordinate meetings, maintain documentation and conduct research in

support of grievance, arbitration and Collective Bargaining processes. In addition, the ER Specialist will research

current labour relations and relevant health care issues and trends and prepare briefings for the ER team. The

Employee Relations Specialist will promote the Providence Care Mission, Vision, Values and strategic initiatives

by providing all support and service in a timely, high quality, and client-focused manner.***

**Role Responsibilities**
- Establishes, audits, and maintains files for grievance and arbitration activity, including opening files,

developing fact sheets and maintaining other supporting documentation, in consultation with the appropriate
manager and union representative.
- Conducts research in support of grievance resolution, mediation or arbitration, as assigned.
- Provides support for each round of collective bargaining, preparing negotiation binders and coordinating the

preparation, filing and distribution of binder materials. Attends team meetings in preparation for Collective
Bargaining to collect, track and disseminate appropriate information to the Employee Relations team.
- Conducts proactive research in support of each round of collective bargaining and maintains current database

of reports (both non-monetary and monetary), identifying comparators for each bargaining unit, in addition
to the central bargaining collective agreements.
- Attends labour/management committee meetings as required, captures minutes, manages the preparation

of the agenda and meeting logistics, and posting of minutes. Initiates follow-up with management prior to the
next labour/management meeting to ensure actioned items have been addressed.
- Researches, creates and maintains databases to track current labour relations and relevant health care

issues/trends. Analyzes findings and prepares briefings (spreadsheets/databases) to present to the Employee
Relations team.
- Assists in preparation of documents by collecting, reporting, and reviewing data related to individual,

department, program, and location specific initiatives, through utilization of various human resources
information systems.
**Required Qualifications and Experience**:

- Post-secondary degree with speciality in Labour Relations/Human Resources.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience, performing a similar role in human resources with a specialty in labour

relations, preferred.
- An equivalent combination of educational and work experience may be considered.
- Recent related experience in a multi-union environment, preferably in a health care setting.
