The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary

UBC has embarked on a multi-year journey to transform its academic and administrative support processes and system environments for the entire UBC community. In November 2020, UBC successfully went live with its new HR and Finance implementation of Workday. The Integrated Renewal Program (IRP) is now focused on the journey to renew the Student information ecosystem, anchored by the implementation of Workday Student.

The Integrated Renewal Program—Student (IRP Student) vision is to transform the way UBC supports learning and research, and how UBC works, to create a cohesive, integrated, and enriched experience for students, staff, and faculty. This implementation will result in superior support for UBC students, a better user experience, a new set of tools, a new way of working, and improved reporting for informed decision-making. IRP Student will leverage the industry-leading cloud enterprise solution Workday to replace our current core Student administration systems with a new integrated, user friendly, mobile-enabled platform.

The Project Manager II manages the entire project lifecycle of medium scale or complex projects including developing project plans, assembling project teams, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedules to ensure timely completion of projects.

The Project Manager II directs and coordinates a cross-functional team and manages inter-project dependencies and communication. The incumbent ensures that the formal project management methodologies established by UBC IT's Project Management Office (PMO), are followed. The incumbent is required to provide regular status reports to the Program Management Office and escalates issues as required.

Organizational Status

The Project Manager II works within the project team including Business Analysts, Developers, functional experts, and other project specialists, and reports into the IRP Program Management Office and takes day-to-day direction from, the Senior Project Manager, IRP Student on all aspects of project delivery, while working closely with management and staff in UBC IT, and other administrative and academic units across the University.

Work Performed

Core Duties:
- Initiates projects following appropriate project management methodology including gathering and defining project requirements, developing project charters, project plans, budgets and schedules, identifying staffing requirements, and forming project teams.- Selects and follows project management methods, procedures, and quality objectives, and tracks metrics for assessing progress.- Balances workload, provides technical and analytical guidance and work direction to project team, including scheduling, assignment of work, review of project efforts and removal of roadblocks which may inhibit project success.- Ensures that all team members have the tools and training required to perform effectively, and provides the team with constructive feedback as it pertains to project performance.- Assesses variances from the project plans, budgets and schedules, develops and implements changes as necessary to ensure that the project remains within specified scope and is within time, cost, and quality objectives, and keeps management aware of the situation.- Conducts formal review with business sponsor at project completion to confirm acceptance and satisfaction.- Identifies potential areas for improvement in current methodologies and provides guidance to other less experienced pr
