- The BC Children’s Knowledge Centre will leverage the trusted brand of BC Children’s Hospital to deliver reliable and evidence-informed tools and health information resources to children, youth and families across BC and the professionals who support them. This new program of BC Children’s Hospital will achieve this vision by coordinating across, enabling and building upon existing knowledge-focused experts within BC Children’s, PHSA and across partner organizations. The processes and outputs of the Knowledge Centre will be informed by diverse family groups, ensuring cultural awareness, socioeconomic backgrounds and ranging abilities are considered in the work._

**What you’ll do**

The Patient and Family Engagement Advisor works under the direction of the Project Manager. This role is responsible for developing, co-designing and evaluating partnership opportunities between patients/families and providers and staff (stakeholders) for the Knowledge Centre. These positions work autonomously, independently and with stakeholders to plan and implement strategies to ensure active patient/supporter engagement including participation in feedback, patient
- and family-centred care initiatives, service planning, delivery and evaluation. The role’s tasks will evolve as the program develops, and overall accountabilities include:

- Mentor stakeholders, build capacity around partnerships and coordinate existing and new patient, family/supporter feedback systems on services, support and other planning activities.
- Support health-care professionals in practicing appropriate and effective engagement with patients, families/supporters as partners.
- Co-develop and implement plans to facilitate the engagement of patients and family/supporters to participate in service planning, delivery and evaluation and to coordinate feedback systems for improved services and related initiatives.
- Identify related potential stakeholder concerns arising from the new program to leadership and collaborate to reach acceptable resolutions.
- Build capacity including advising staff and providers on patient engagement resources, tools, assessing partnership roles and functions, facilitating discussions on patient and family partnerships with health-care professionals, providers and staff in understanding patient engagement, and in practicing appropriate and effective partnership approaches with patients/families.
- Partner on the execution, development, expansion, and reports pertaining to patient, parent and caregiver activities within the Slocan Site Redevelopment Project.

**What you bring**:

- A level of education, training, and experience that may include project management, volunteer administration, post-secondary education or the equivalence to a post-secondary degree, plus 5 years recent related experience. Lived health care experience or knowledge of complex health care systems and communities is an asset.

- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
