**Summary**:
Under the general supervision of the Leader, Plant Services, performs maintenance and repair duties to building components, systems and Hospital equipment. Operates and maintains power plant and associated equipment. Supervisors and schedules boiler operator, maintenance workers and outside contractors.

**Qualifications / Skills and Education**:
Education
Grade 12, plus five years recent, related experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Certificate of competency as a 4th Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of B.C.

Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to deal with others effectively.
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
Ability to supervise.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications.
Ability to organize work.
Ability to operate related equipment.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Supervises Maintenance Workers and Boiler Operator by reviewing work requests and assigning, scheduling, coordinating, and reviewing work. Supervises, schedules and coordinates the work of outside Contractors to ensure Hospital requirements are met. Operates and maintains plant and all associated equipment by making routine checks and adjustments of all components and maintaining a log according to the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act. Performs chemical analysis of boiler water to assess and adjust chemicals to appropriate concentrations. Maintains building components such as ceilings, doors, locks, flashings, roof and baseboards or repairing parts. Maintains building systems such as electrical, heating, air conditioning, nurse call, refrigerator and fire alarm by testing equipment, making adjustments, and replacing components. Monitors hydrotherapy pool by testing and adjusting water chemical content. Maintains Hospital equipment such as wheelchairs, sterilizers, beds and furniture by replacing bearings, adjusting and or repairing components. Performs scheduled preventative maintenance work on equipment and systems by inspecting, testing, adjusting, replacing parts, lubricating, cleaning and recording results. Performs electrical safety inspections on new equipment by using testing equipment. Removes and replaces plumbing fixtures such as sinks and toilets and disconnects/reconnects water supply and waste lines. Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance program on Hospital equipment, recommends repairs and purchases as required. Identifies parts required for specific projects and equipment. Reports requirements to the Leader for purchase. Maintains inventory of parts by completing regular checks and restocking shelves upon arrival of parts. Participates in minor capital projects by estimating time and material required and carries out approved plumbing and electrical projects. Performs other related duties as assigned.
