**Genetic Enhancement Breeding Agronomist (95730)**

**Location: Saskatoon, SK**

**Where the Chemistry Happens**:
Accountable to the Genetic Enhancement Canola Breeder, the position is responsible for field trials for the Genetic Enhancement Breeding Program which is focused on increasing the genetic diversity in the spring oilseed breeding programs at BASF. This role is responsible for field activities including field trial setup, seeding, site and plot maintenance, bagging segregating germplasm, harvesting, and preparing selected lines for the winter nursery.

**Formula for Success: You Will**:

- Ensure all trial activities are under stringent management for delivering high level evaluation, to be utilized in statistical analysis and in-depth selection.
- Be responsible for accurate record keeping and ensure a complete note package is collected for each trial. Support QA/QMS in activities as required by the breeding program.
- Execute management and agronomy of seeding to harvesting activities such as pest and stress diagnosis, disease identification, site and plot maintenance including weed and volunteer control, maintaining isolation requirements, off type and pollination management, swathing and cutting select material.
- Participate in the North American breeding seed setup to ensure all protocol are completed and ready for spring planting in a timely fashion.
- Prepare breeding material and participate in winter nursery (contra) when required.
- Manage resources with the goal of achieving all breeding objectives and effective operation of the program which involves equipment maintenance, management of supplies and seed stocks, and management of summer students and contract employees.
- Advance segregating populations by leading a team to self-selected plants in the bag selfing nursery. Ensure high yields by regularly conducting maintenance throughout the season.
- Maintain records as well as manage and organize envelopes for harvest, leading a team to harvest selected seedlots and managing inventories.

**Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You**:

- Degree or Diploma in Agriculture or related discipline.
- Experience in plant breeding, genetics, canola agronomy, canola botany, pollen flow, genetic purity, conducting research trials using statistical design and analysis are all assets.
- Competent in troubleshooting farm and small plot research equipment.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to be flexible and modify plans as required to minimize impact on data and production as situations arise.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team either as a member or as a supervisor for summer interns or contract employees.
- A valid class 5 driver’s license, and ability to obtain a heavy trailer endorsement.
- A collaborative approach, with excellent communication skills, ability to influence cross functional teams, open to giving and receiving ideas, perspectives, and feedback.
