Reporting to the Plant Manager in the Fort Saskatchewan, this position is responsible for ensuring the integrity and safety of food products throughout the manufacturing process utilizing various standards and established testing methods, operating procedures, and adherence to protocols and policies. Provide leadership and technical support with an emphasis on customer requirements, continuous product quality improvement and productivity requirements. In Fort Saskatchewan operations are 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Core Functions:

- Perform all duties safely, display safety leadership, cultivate a zero incident safety culture, and comply with all government and corporate safety requirements
- Lead the Salmonella prevention program. Responsible for maintaining Salmonella testing schedule and proactively address Feed safety issues to maintain compliance.
- Leads in developing and maintaining Feed and Food Safety culture through employee engagement and accountability
- Responsible for maintaining and sharing monthly KPI data
- Set up and conduct chemical tests and analysis using techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy, optical emission spectrometry and wet chemistry
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus, prepare solutions and reagents compile records and interpret experimental or analytical results
- Develop and conduct programs of sampling and analysis to maintain quality standards raw materials and products
- Carry out daily lab routine, general maintenance and upkeep of laboratory
- Assist management in implementation of procedures, protocols and policies, and monitoring for compliance of such
- Provide training/education to the process operators including the sample check program
- Maintain a safe work environment for all employees
- Continuously improve plant GMPs through regular inspection of the plant
- Chair of Food Safety Committee
- Set up and update quality assurance procedures, standards, methods, audits, and system including document control and supplier certifications
- Establish and maintain all quality systems, procedures and policies and manage the activities of the quality department
- Authorized to release product, issue certificate of analysis, initiate recall procedures, and recommend corrective actions
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and customer audits including CFIA, AIB and others as they come up
- Work with staff to maintain quality awareness programs such as GMP, HACCP, rework and kosher
- Ensure quality of the outgoing product
- Maintain compliance with customer requirements and respond to customer requests as required including COA's, sample requests, and complaints
- Location GMP, HACCP and QMS coordinator
- Contribute to the plant/process troubleshooting
- Participate in the collaborative testing
- Maintain good communication between plants, helping with some essential testing/troubleshooting
- Work with peers at other Bunge sites, safety resources, STL and Oakville technical staff, district managers and other support personnel
- Interact with service providers such as vendors, third party auditors, government regulators and inspectors, contractors and consultants
- Develops and maintains food relations with federal and provincial government agencies, especially relating to food safety issues
- Other duties as assigned

Skill/Experience Requirements:

- Minimum BS degree in Food Science, Biochemistry or Chemistry
- Several years of experience in a Laboratory or R&D environment
- Must be proactive and be able to demonstrate sound problem solving skills

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of edible oil laboratory procedures and practices
