The Controller position is accountable for the general accounting operations of the company, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls, designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles, ASPE and/or IFRS.

The role also includes responsibility for general administration, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, and risk management.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.
- Identity gaps within the current accounting processes including opportunities to optimize the current ERP and provide a framework for execution of improvements. Maintain a continuous improvement plan for all processes
- Ensure effective change management of key change initiatives
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures including work instructions
- Maintain the chart of accounts
- Manage the accounting for all companies, including monthly working papers
- Provide guidance and mentorship to Accounting Staff
- Issue timely and complete weekly and monthly financial reports and financial statements
- Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the financial performance of the companies; calculate and issue financial metrics
- Participate in the annual budget and quarterly forecasts of SG&A
- Participate in SG&A variances analysis from the budget/forecast and report significant issues to management
- Provide financial analyses as needed
- Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual & interim audits
- Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
- Comply with local, provincial, federal, and international government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Support acquisitions (oversee year end, accounting training)
- Work with PMO/IS/Equipment to build tools for:

- Vendor/contract management
- Analyzing truck/equipment fleet
- Maintain BST/ER

**What You’ll Bring to the Team**
- CPA designation is required
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant program is preferred
- 7+ years of relevant accounting experience in a senior financial role
- Leadership skills with the ability to lead a team to achieve desired results
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and diplomacy skills required for maintaining positive business relationships
- Must have strong organizational abilities to prioritize tasks and handle changing work priorities, in a fast-paced deadline oriented environment
- Must possess a high degree of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information
- Demonstrate analytical and problem solving skills.
- Primarily in an office environment. May be required to travel periodically, as needed.
- Periodic weekend or evening work may be required
- Overtime may be required at month-end and in peak workflows period.
