The Social Sciences Office of the Associate Dean (Academic) supports nearly 5,000 undergraduate students registered in programs offered by 12 academic units. The Office of the Associate Dean (Academic) handles the admission, academic advising, enrollment and reviewing of all undergraduate students in the Faculty of Social Sciences. It is also the home for the Careers & Experiential Education initiatives offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences to our students including the coordination of course placements, internships, and career preparation opportunities.

**Job Summary**:
**Purpose and Key Functions**:

- Facilitate instructional sessions, including the assessment of learning, and ensure curriculum is covered in the duration of the course.
- Provide academic and social strategies to students.
- Engage students in a variety of activities to provide a strong foundation for career and future planning.
- Assist students in identifying their strengths, ambitions, and goals for the future.
- Recommend and implement necessary changes and improvements to the course and courseware.
- Organize and monitor the online learning environment for courses by ensuring that the appropriate course content information is made available to students.
- Provide feedback on student submissions.
- Monitor student performance and attendance, and complete and submit student grades.
- Work with students on various career related topics such as resume and cover letter writing, and job search techniques.
- Direct students to internal and external information resources, programs, and staff that will assist individuals in preparing career action and student success action plans.
- Write a variety of documents such as correspondence and learning material.

- Previous course or workshop facilitation experience is an asset.
- Career development or skill-building training or experience is an asset.
- Familiarity with Avenue to Learn (i.e. D2L Brightspace) and/or Zoom is an asset.

**Additional Information**:
In this role you will facilitate career development and skill development workshops and mini-courses delivered by the Careers & Experiential Education (C&EE) team in the Faculty of Social Sciences. This is a Limited Term Employee (LTE) role at 0.5 full-time hours, 17.5 hours per week, covering the period of August 15th, 2023 until August 14th, 2025.

Your duties will primarily center on facilitating instructional workshop sections of Social Sciences 2EL0, a six-week, zero-credit mini-course focusing on career preparation. As 2EL0 facilitator you will act as the main instructional and administrative contact for students in the course. You will be able to use existing lesson plans and resources compiled by the C&EE career development team, including online resources and videos students can review before each workshop.

In September and October 2023, Soc Sci 2ELO's four (4) workshop sections are scheduled for Tuesdays from 12:30 pm to 2:20 pm and on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays each at 8:30-10:20 am.

In January and February 2024, Soc Sci 2ELO's four(4) workshop sections are scheduled on Thursdays and Fridays, with two sections at 8:30 am to 10:20 am and 12:30 pm to 2:20 pm on each day.

While the above times are now set, we will be pleased to schedule around your needs as Faciliator when planning subsequent 2EL0 sections in Spring/Summer 2024, Fall and Winter 2024-25, and Spring/Summer 2025.

On weeks when 2EL0 is not in session, your focus will shift to course maintenance and renewal: recommending and implementing necessary changes and improvements to the course and courseware; organizing and monitoring the on line learning environment to ensure that appropriate content information is made available to students, working with students from the course on career related topics such as resume and cover letter writing, and so on. Where appropriate, you may also facilitate additional workshops or learning sessions pertaining to career development and university transitions.
