**SUMMARY**

The Intern, Finance & Accounting is accountable for providing transactional support for a process within an accounting cycle. Specific accountabilities include preparation of journal entries, implementation of process improvement initiatives and internal controls sampling.

**KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Reconciliation of purchase card transactions monthly, ensuring necessary approvals and support are saved centrally.
- Pulls supporting documentation as directed by Finance for audit support
- Support preparation and upload of financial transactions into accounting system.
- Preparation of standard reports and subsequent analysis (AP/AR aging, labour, etc.).
- Other duties as assigned.

**FINANCE SPECIFIC SCOPE/DEFINITION**

**Portfolio Scope/Complexity**
- High volume, recurring, routine and basic transactional processing

**Complexity of Accounting**
- Requires basic understanding of project coordination, purchasing and accounting principles.

**Involvement in Full Cycle Accounting**
- Transactional support for a process within an accounting cycle (i.e. P-card logs, journal entries and time and labour reports)

**Preparation of Financial Information**
- Gathers data for data processing
- Consolidation of monthly reporting packages

**Reporting Audience/User of Financial Information**
- Internal vertical reporting
- Interaction with internal functional groups (audit, taxation, accounts payable, etc.)

**Audit Support**
- Files and retrieves documentation for audit support
- Documentation is reviewed prior to submission

**Problem Solving**
- Identification of non-compliance items
- Coding discrepancies

**Interaction with Client/Management**
- Significant interaction with internal operations team
- Interaction with vendors and customers.

**EDUCATION, JOB-RELATED YEARS OF EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS**

**MINIMUM EDUCATION**:Accounting, finance or business post-secondary program in progress.

**JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE**:None required.

**Knowledge & Skills**
- Ability to manage and perform reconciliations within large volume of transactions, using key data elements.
- Ability to process high volume data with accuracy
- Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues for the purpose of data clarification and exchange, and follow up
- Ability to identify non-compliance items (i.e.) insufficient authorization, missing signature
- Ability to make basic policy adherence decisions
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite of Software, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to identify data discrepancies - (i.e.) coding, validation

- None required
- Demonstrates interest in pursuing a career in Accounting. Explores potential licenses and professional accreditation options
