Qc Supervisor

Reporting to the Manager, Quality Control, this position is accountable for supporting the QC Manager and the plant QC department for the provision of efficient and effective quality control services to the Production department within the Gay Lea Foods Guelph facility.
**Key Accountabilities**:
- Primary lead for the coordination and maintenance of the ISO management System (17025:2005) program
- Responsible for training, coaching, supporting the growth and development of 2 afternoon shift QC Technicians
- Working closely with production staff in the areas of sanitation, hygiene, GMP’s, process controls, CCP’s and related necessary training
- Aligning with the QC manager to support the overall effectiveness of the lab, lab administration, ensure regular product and process checking, including analysis and reporting
- Secondary liaison with partners, auditors and government inspectors to ensure the co-operative maintains a positive reputation as a manufacturer of high-quality products
- Provide support and knowledge to the plant with regards to food safety and quality topics
- Developing a positive team approach by ensuring a close working relationship exists between production personnel and QC Technicians at all times
- Work closely with Operations Management & Staff to promote and drive a strong Food Safety Culture
- Has complete authority to stop the manufacture of food if any unsafe conditions are encountered or the quality of the product might be compromised
- Reports to the Manager, QC any issues or barriers encountered in the accomplishments of duties above
- Ensuring compliance to environmental programs, raw ingredient testing and ensuring all customer requirements are met
- Support investigation of process and product out-of-specifications, deviations and customer complaints including root cause analysis and determination of preventative and correction actions.
- Support the plant HACCP system
- Support SQF systems by maintaining existing systems, validate and verify programs to ensure it continually complies to SQF requirements
- Working with the QC manager to ensure provision of QC team coverage for production as per business demands
- Back up to QC Manager and other projects as assigned
**Qualifications and Competencies**:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the food industry
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry and/or Food Science is preferred
- Supervisory experience as well as excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
- Proficient computer abilities using Word, Excel and Access
- Good knowledge of HACCP/GMP/FSEP & SQF.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Solid analytical skills and process improvement driven
