SUPERVISOR (French Required)

Permanent Position (non-union)

**FUNCTION**

This is a management position in our permanency department, reporting directly to a Service Director. A supervisor is expected to promote the organizational values of Respect, Integrity, Accountability, Professionalism and Community Collaboration, as well as demonstrate strong leadership skills and the capacity to influence various stakeholders. As a member of the agency’s Management Team, a supervisor must endorse and actively contribute to the vision and direction of the organization, while at the same time support and develop employees in the delivery of professional quality, evidence-based, and clinically focused services to the community. A supervisor must also assume responsibility for one’s personal growth and development while acting in accordance with the highest professional standards of integrity and competence at all times.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

Managing People
- Manage a team of front-line child welfare workers.
- Assist in the hiring, promoting, transferring, and termination of employees as required.
- Provide timely and effective orientation for new staff in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.
- Establish and maintain regular individual and group supervision meetings.
- Improve employee performance by coaching, developing and providing timely feedback in a supervision setting or in a performance appraisal.
- Address internal and external complaints regarding employees in a timely fashion and implement action when required.

Administration of Collective Agreement
- Project Management and Community Involvement:

- Engage and participate in internal projects promoting the organization’s service philosophy and value community, regional and provincial partners to improve services to children, youth and families while being an ambassador for the agency.
- Participate in community committees/events or boards as a representative of the agency.

Service Excellence
- Disseminate knowledge of all policies, procedures, standards and directives and ensures reporting requirements are met.
- Develop and maintain accountability mechanisms to ensure that client service goals are being met.
- Facilitate the resolution of client complaints.
- Accountable for individual and team performance to a Service Director.
- Act as a communication link between front line personnel and senior management.
- Participate in planning at the team, department and agency levels.
- Be an excellent team player.
- Participate in oversight management of compliance for documentation and other related Ministry Standards.
- Promote the integration of quality assurance perspectives and practices in all aspects of agency activities.
- Having a passion for children and youth to succeed is a must.
- Contribute to the ongoing review of the effectiveness of agency programs for children and youth.
- Provide clinical guidance to frontline staff and have a particular ability managing difficult and high risk situations involving children with youth.
- Ensuring that children and youth have a support network is a critical and integral part of the work.
- Be creative and advocate for innovative practice in the service delivery for children and youth.
- Notify the Service Director about issues of a contentious or sensitive nature on a timely basis.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- BSW or equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the human services field.
- The ability to communicate in both official languages will be a requirement for this position, designated as French essential under the _French Language Services Act_
- Related management experience in the human services field would be preferable.
- Knowledge of First Nations, Inuit and Métis history, people and communities and a demonstrated ability to engage with the communities.
- Knowledge, experience, and understanding of the culture, history and current issues/oppression experienced by First Nations, Inuit and Métis; those of African-Canadian/Black heritage; and other racially marginalized persons in our community.
- Strong communicator, team player, leader, innovative, flexible, creative, transparent and organized.
