**Job description**

Job Description: This is a short-term freelance position (lasting 4 business days, 7 hours per day) that requires excellent comprehension and speaking skills in both English and Tamang. 1-3 years of interpretation experience is required. The interpreter will provide consecutive interpretation either in-person or through videoconferencing, depending on the assignment. All assignments will be conducted from Calgary.

The interpreter must process information quickly and concisely, understand cultural nuances, and maintain professionalism and courtesy in every interaction. Assignments may involve fields such as healthcare, government, insurance, law enforcement, and general business.

**Responsibilities and Duties**:
Location of work: This position requires the interpreter to work from Calgary for in-person assignments or through videoconferencing while based in Calgary.

Tools: Note pads, writing utensils, glossaries, and dictionaries are useful for accurate interpretation.

**Major Responsibilities and Principal Accountabilities**:

- Render correct concepts and meanings between Tamang and English, ensuring clarity, consistency, and adherence to the grammatical rules of both languages
- Provide excellent customer service with clear communication and a professional demeanor in all interactions.
- Understand and use terminology specific to fields such as healthcare, insurance, finance, and law.
- Stay composed during high-stress or sensitive situations, including emergency-related interpretations.
- Maintain neutrality, follow client instructions closely, and remain objective during all interpretation sessions.

**Qualifications**:

- Native fluency in both Tamang and English.
- Advanced skills in the cultural dynamics (cultural implication and idiomatic expression) of both Tamang and English
- Excellent listening, retention and note taking skills to maintain a high level of accuracy
- Knowledge of industry-specific terminology; on-going study of glossaries and training materials including scripts provided by our clients
- Ability to concentrate, stay detached from the conversation, and remain neutral and objective at all times
- Ability to follow client's instructions closely
- Ability to explain certain cultural concepts to avoid miscommunication with the permission or at request of the client
- Education in languages/ interpretation or related fields preferred, but not required
