Base Camp Chef/cook

We are looking for someone to join our tight-knit team to help put the 'Glam' in Glamping
This individual will play a deliciously essential and valued role in the Spirit of the West team. The Base Camp Chef will be a dynamic and creative individual who will produce delicious and healthy meals, accommodating a variety of dietary needs while operating a hygienic and well-maintained kitchen and dining area in a remote off-grid camp.
**Role and Responsibilities**
- Food Preparation_
- Prepare high-quality, nutritious, well-presented meals breakfast, lunch and dinner including appetizers and desserts and snacks in alignment with guest and staff dietary requirements and menus/supplies provided
- Plan meal times according to the kayaking schedule, coordinate with guides to ensure meals are prepared at the most appropriate times ensuring maximized time kayaking
- Maintain hot and cold beverage bar and make snacks available between meals
- Assisting with dishes and clean up in an ongoing manner in collaboration with Operations Assistant and Guides
- Assist guests with their introduction to their wilderness experiences, ensuring their comfort and safety
- Review, plan and communicate with your team about tour details including logistics, dietary needs, inventory details, shopping lists and all other relevant details for each tour
- Know and follow all Food Safe Guidelines
- Maintain a high standard of hygiene in food preparation and service areas, throughout the camp, and personally
- Camp Management_
- Familiarize yourself with the location and operation of all safety equipment and procedures
- Assist in providing first aid attention if required
- Follow and exemplify all current Provincial and company health guidelines including strict COVID policies and procedures
- Maintain a responsible minimum impact camp
- Maintain a clean, organized and efficient kitchen and food storage area
- Communicate with the base to ensure adequate inventory & supplies in the camp
- Repair and/or report faulty or damaged gear or equipment
- Manage food stocks by maintaining adequate supply and rotating products, minimizing waste and spoilage
- Implement systems as necessary to maximize efficiency
- Delegate tasks to Base Camp Operations Assistant and/or Guides if necessary to ensure kitchen duties are completed
- Participate in cleanup of dishes and kitchen after every meal
- Label and pack up items for return to base and prepare the kitchen on turnover day
- Act as a representative of Spirit of the West Adventures in the field
- Maintain a friendly professional demeanour at all times
- All other reasonable tasks as requested by the Lead Guide/Operations Manager

Skills, Training & Experience
- Experience living & working in remote and/or wilderness setting
- 'in your element' camping and living off-grid
- Formal training and/or significant experience with food management, preparation, and presentation
- Interest and experience with preparing wild-harvested foods, including local fish and seafood, when harvested ethically, sustainably and legally
- Exceptional Customer service skills
- FoodSafe Level 1
- First Aid Certificate & CPR C
- Clean Drivers license (Class 4 preferred)
- Live for extended periods of time in a remote off-grid location with limited cellular service, camping onsite in a shared Canvas tent (covid dependant). Typical rotation is 7-8 days on in the field and 4-5 off.
- Work extended hours in a split-shift type manner to accommodate the needs at camp i.e helping with morning meals/lunch prep, then some time off in the afternoon and then dinner/dessert prep & service again later in the day
