CLASSIFICATION: Counsellor II, Child & Youth Counsellor, Permanent, part-time
HOURS: 0.6 FTE, all clinic sites
SALARY: Collective Agreement CUPE #974
CORE FUNCTION: Restore and/or enhance the mental, emotional and social health and well-being of distressed
Community Clinic clients age 5 to 18 years, and their families, through individual and family
therapy, connection with the school, referrals, advocacy, community action, and program
leadership.
DUTIES:
- To provide secondary mental health screening to patients referred by SCC Physicians and
NPs.
- To provide counselling and play-based therapy to child and youth. Caseload may include
complex and difficult-to-serve cases.
- To provide program leadership as dictated by client and program needs.
- To work as part of the health care team.
- To refer clients to appropriate community agencies and services for assistance in
improving personal, social, and vocational functioning and for practical help. Advocates
on their behalf as appropriate and necessary.
- To participate in the clinical supervision of practicum students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Master’s degree in Social Work or Psychology, or the equivalent in work experience,
training and education. (To qualify as having the equivalent to a Master’s degree, a
person must have a Bachelor degree, such as a B.S.W. or B.A. (Hon. Psych) that includes
several courses in counselling theory and practice and a counselling practicum, plus
additional training and at least six years’ experience as a psychotherapist).
- Eligible for registration in a professional association and eligible for liability insurance to
practice psychotherapy
- Three years’ experience as a mental health therapist.
- Experience in intake triage and brief therapy.
- Significant clinical training in a broad range of assessment and treatment skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work as an independent practitioner within a multi-disciplinary
primary health care team.
- Compatible with the philosophy and policies of CHSA.
- Must be bondable.
- EMR experience preferred.
