**General Accountabilities**:
*Please note: this is a paid internship opportunity from early May to late September.

The Accounting Intern provides analytical support to the plant operations finance group in both Calgary and Lethbridge. The position is a key support role in preparation of all financial data prepared by plant finance.

**Critical Success Factors**:

- Support the Finance Manager, Operations Accounting/Operations Controller in meeting all reporting deadlines including account reconciliations, preparation of annual budgets and monthly forecasts and other key reporting activities. Preparation of current operating results in comparison to budget and forecast in a timely manner.
- Provide support and expertise to plant operations team by producing analysis of manufacturing variances and key performance indicators. Prepare, interpret and make recommendations to management regarding corrective action required to maintain costing standards.
- Optimize SAP reporting and functionality to facilitate timely identification and analysis of plant operating issues. Communicate with I.T. team to question, understand and implement SAP processes to enhance performance of plant reporting.
- Perform audit activities including inventories and financial performance results. Communicating with both internal and external audit staff in preparing accounting data.
- Provide relief for other finance functions including Inventory and accruals and journal entries into SAP.
- May perform other duties such as calculating Provincial Boards’ Milk payments and accruals.
- Currently enrolled in a College Diploma or University degree in accounting/finance
- Knowledge of business and industry processes, plus ability to communicate with both plant and corporate personnel enable position to prepare and present data for review and action.
- SAP R3 manufacturing experience with knowledge of BOMS and costing processes
- Proficient with standard office computer technology including Microsoft Office products with a very strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to create in excel models for budgeting and financial analysis using macros and vlookup tables data bases
- Ability to work independently under tight deadlines
- Ability to work with different functional group at both plant levels
- Strong understanding of various manufacturing and control processes in the Manufacturing plant
- Understanding of costing principles and plant operations
