**Position Title**
- Trades Shop Technician - Mechanical / Industrial**Position Summary**
- The School of Trades and Technology is looking for a permanent full-time Trades Shop Technician - Mechanical / Industrial.-
**Position Responsibilities**
- Responsibilities of the Mechanical / Industrial Technician - Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) include:
- Designs, prototypes, tests, modifies and delivers a wide range of custom-made projects to meet unique specifications.
- Cuts student materials, stores and distributes materials as required.
- Procures materials and tools as required.
- Receives supplies of materials and other goods and arranges for proper storage.
- Sets up and dissembles a variety of equipment as well as a number of complex mock-ups.
- Troubleshoots problems with equipment and tools under tight timelines.
- Conducts regular maintenance and repairs of the Shop facilities and equipment.
- Consults researches, designs, and fabricates and/or modifies equipment as requested by instructors.
- Redesigns present lab equipment to meet changing needs of the learner.
- Keeps current with safety regulations & communicates expectations and changes to colleagues, instructors, and students
- Maintains Safety policy with all the trades shop/lab facilities.
- Checks and maintains safety equipment.
- Explains and enforce safety procedures to individuals using the shop/lab facilities. Disposes of hazardous waste in storage areas (i.e. antifreeze, used oil, gasoline) using proper procedures.
- Maintains SDS inventory and WHMIS records.
- Purchases and maintains accurate inventories of consumables, materials and equipment for the department.
- Participates in decision-making for capital purchases, research alternatives, complete a cost-benefit analysis of technical features and make recommendations for purchases.
- Distributes Shop equipment and materials as needed and arrange for shipment of materials to off-site campuses.
- Communicates safe & proper usage of equipment and tools to the departments
- Price schedule and track all off-campus repairs and shipments
- Coordinates Shop/Lab use for multiple classes and develops a plan to use Shop/Lab space to maximum efficiency in collaboration with instructors.
- Adapts schedules to accommodate changing needs of classes.
**Required Qualifications**
- Two (2) years of post-secondary training, completion of a community college certificate including trades apprenticeships or equivalent.
- Three (3) to five (5) Years’ experience.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Sound decision making ability and problem solving skills.
- Be familiar with plumbing, gas, pipe related components, rotating and hydraulic equipment.
- Working knowledge of machinery and equipment used in common Pipe Trades and Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) programs
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Training or experience in calibration standards an asset.
- Proficient computer skills and experience in material management (purchasing, inventory)
- First Aid/CPR and WHMIS certification.
- Willingness to learn and keep up to date on technology, and advance skills through courses and PD opportunities.
- Experienced in working successfully as part of a team and individually.
- Safety training relevant to Common Pipe Trades and Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) programs.
