The incumbent works directly with the Directors & Managers (Exploration), Manager Environment & Social Performance, Leads, OH&S, and Drilling leadership of E&G to ensure the successful implementation of all OH&S programs and will advise the Directors and VP, Exploration & Geoscience in advancing E&G’s strategic OH&S objectives and tactical plans. The role is required to maintain positive relationships with the Corporate H&S function to ensure both alignment of objectives but equally, to support corporate initiatives as the need arises while maintaining positive relationships across Teck business units, operational sites and external industry OH&S peers within the Exploration and associated contractor industries.

**Responsibilities**:

- Ensures the quality and completeness of E&G OH&S Guidelines, processes and practices to meet corporate requirements and reflect appropriate industry best-practices;
- Ensures that all jurisdictional teams undertake effective and verified risk management to identify and mitigate all ‘major’ and ‘severe’ risks associated with self and contractor-managed activities, equipment and physical exposures.
- Ensures efficient processes are established to record and communicate OH&S performance within the context of ongoing performance, operational hazard exposures and defined performance targets and measures.
- Tracks group-level OH&S performance across E&G in accordance with both Teck-wide metrics and E&G-specific criteria.
- Provides recommendations on the allocation of resources across and within jurisdictions and reviews project and jurisdictional OH&S budgets and operational plans.
- Leads all aspects of the execution of assurance programs to promote compliance and continued improvement of performance against both Teck and E&G requirements
- Supports the timely and accurate reporting of all unwanted events, identifies any local, regional and global trends of concern and ensures communication to E&G teams
- Responsible for the completion of all comprehensive (ICAM) investigations related to High Potential Incidents (HPI level 3-4) and ensures the closure of all associated actions.
- Responsible for developing annual OH&S improvement plans and updating strategic goals / actions in collaboration with OH&S Leads for consideration by E&G management.
- Provides E&G Directors & Managers with regular performance reviews to ensure the consistent implementation of OH&S programs and shares best practice to promote continuous improvement across E&G.
- Promotes a strong sense of professional community for all E&G OH&S practitioners and supports the professional development of the team.
- Monitor industry practices, trends and performance, and implement continuous improvement opportunities as appropriate.
- Maintains effective professional networks across the industry in support of E&G OH&S objectives.
- Promotes Teck’s culture of Courageous Safety Leadership.

**Qualifications**:

- Degree in Health, Safety, or exploration related field of study is desirable
- At least 10 years of experience in project/jurisdictional safety, supervision, inspection/auditing and risk mitigation in an exploration or mining related industry
- Proven strong safety values aligned with Teck’s Courageous Safety Leadership culture
- Advanced understanding of the principles (with experience in the implementation) of Health and Safety Management Systems, Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, Risk Mitigation, Critical Controls, Hierarchy of Controls and use of Risk Control Register
- Advanced experience in the design and implementation of OH&S programs / systems within the scope of mining or mining exploration activities
- Proven understanding of regulatory framework associated with appropriate local, national and international regulations
- Proven understanding hazard identification and risk assessment related to use of fixed wing and rotary aircraft for transportation of people, equipment and collection of survey information
- Experience in OH&S audit / review processes within compliance and risk mitigation activities
- Experience in incident review and investigation methods (i.e. ICAM), including the classification of occupational health and safety incidents
- Expertise in hazard and risk identification associated with differing climates, terrains, habitats and cultures throughout stages of project development
- Ability to influence individual and team performance through proactive leadership;
- Willingness to influence leadership towards meeting their functional OH&S accountabilities
- Active mentorship across a range of OH&S and E&G practitioners towards skills and knowledge improvements
- Excellent interpersonal, networking, communication and relationship management skills are an asset
- Use of IsoMetrics, Trackline and/or other relationship management (CRM) software would be beneficial
- Advanced oral and written English language skills are required. Spanish lang
