Sexualized Violence Response Consultant

**Position description**:
The Sexualized Violence Response Consultant will be the first point of contact for students and staff who have experienced or have concerns related to sexualized violence and/or gender-based violence.
The incumbent will be responsible for conducting intake, accepting disclosures and complaints of sexualized violence, and supporting individuals who are impacted by sexualized violence. They will help create and improve processes to better support individuals while advocating to enhance the response to sexualized violence, harassment, and discrimination to increase safety in our community.
This role will report to the Director of Student Experience and their work will be supported by a committee of faculty, students, and staff. Working closely with Mount Allison’s Sexualized Violence Prevention and Education Coordinator, Mental Health Counsellors, Social Worker, and other key contacts, this position may be required to maintain some office hours in residence and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
**Responsibilities**
- Receive disclosures and complaints in cases of sexualized violence and help students and staff navigate the complaints processes.
- Support students and staff complainants in navigating the University sexualized violence policy and procedures.
- Responsible for creation of safety and plans of care for survivors of sexualized violence.
- Facilitate access to trauma-informed wellness supports such as counselling, SANE Program and additional medical services, to those who have experienced sexualized violence.
- Facilitate on-campus accommodations, such as academic and housing, for students who have experienced sexualized violence, by coordinating with faculty and staff contacts.
- Provide ongoing wellness support and advocacy for survivors of sexualized violence as needed.
- Foster an environment where survivors feel heard, believed, and validated while working together to explore options that best meet the survivor’s needs.
- Collect complaints, including documenting complaints, and maintain confidential files and notes
- Collect and report data in accordance with University policy and provincial guidelines.
- Uphold the independence of the office on campus, as well as professional standards that include procedural fairness, and confidentiality.
- Liaise with the Sexualized Violence Prevention and Education Coordinator, Wellness staff members, Mental Health Counsellors, Social Worker, Residence Life staff, Student Life staff and representatives of Sexual Violence New Brunswick, the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism Student Advisor, the Indigenous Student Advisor, members of the Anti-Racism Response Team, and other staff and faculty as required.
- Liaise with external partners such as Sexual Violence NB, RCMP, Victim Services and other providers for ongoing support and advocacy for survivors.
- Aid in the coordination of sexualized violence services volunteers for sexualized violence response and prevention outreach.
- Participate as a member of relevant committees.
- Perform other related duties as required.
**Qualifications/skills**:
- Knowledge or demonstrated ability to learn relevant Human Rights legislation and University policy & processes
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ work experience in sexualized violence, gender-based violence, and/or intimate partner violence
- Experience in the field of sexualized violence response and prevention, survivor support, and advocacy is a key asset.
- Experience with sexualized violence in 2SLGBTQ+ communities is a key asset.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and mediation skills.
- Formal or informal training in Trauma and violence-informed and/or consensus-based decision making is an asset.
- Formal or informal training in sexual health, anti-racism, Indigenous rights is preferred.
- Professional certification in mediation/restorative practice/alternate dispute resolution an asset.
- Demonstrated commitment to highest levels of integrity and ethical behaviour.
**Additional Qualifications (preferred but not required)**
- Preference will be given to someone with a Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related discipline from a recognized university.
- Experience working with young adults as an educator and/or direct service provider.
- Licensed Counselling Therapist in New Brunswick is preferred but not essential.
- Certification by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association or the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers or other appropriate professional licensing body is preferred but not essential.
