Lab Technician-summer Student

**Position Summary** Position Title: Laboratory Technician Reports to: Operations Manager Salary range: 21-30$ per hour
- 35-40 hours a week

**Job Specifications
- Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities (TDR’s)** -Comply with all safety regulations and report any hazards to the proper authority -Gathering & assessing water samples, examining aquatic weeds, invertebrates, algae -Report writing and record-keeping -Run Laboratory tests -General duties - research, improve ID guides, photograph water, riparian etc -Performing any other tasks required by Manager -Assist field technicians -Continuously throughout the season, think of ways to improve the identification system and brainstorm other water assessment tests that can help improve our service -Proper labelling of samples is paramount (client or pond name and date) -Communicate with field technicians if there was potentially harmful biomatter (blue-green algae, etc.) in the sample -Create case studies and monitoring programs **Responsibilities** 65% - Assessing samples, running laboratory tests, examining aquatic weeds and algae 15% Report writing, scientific data collection and record-keeping, assisting field staff 10% Create case studies and monitoring programs for research and development 5% General duties - photo, research, ID guide improvements **Qualifications** -demonstrated proficiency in written/ oral communication (writing/editing/formatting) in the English language -Demonstrated proficiency using a microscope and doing chemical tests -Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision -Must be alert and resourceful and be able to interact with a cross-section of individuals -Must be able to demonstrate patience and perseverance and embrace change when it occurs **Credentials and Experience** -Enrolled in or recent graduate of Enviro Sciences, Science, Biology, Agriculture or Engineering -First aid/CPR training an asset -WHMIS training an asset -Fit Tested Mask an asset -Clean driving record -Interest in science and water remediation an asset -Laboratory experience making notes and familiar with data entry Type of Person Whom Will Succeed in this Role -Focused on details to manage time-sensitive projects in a distracting environment -Strong organizational & multi-tasking skills -People person -Neatness in appearance -A belief in the importance of punctuality -Be a team player and able to project a strong professional demeanour -Directive personality - solves problems in a decisive manner -Outgoing - interact in a socially engaging manner -Sense of urgency - with a high tolerance for ambiguity -Detail-oriented / numbers focused - but with creativity to get the job done What we offer: -A great culture -A supportive team that is committed to personal and professional growth -A place of continuous learning and research -A safe working environment - We are Safe Work Certified -A growing company -A competitive compensation plan -Regular full-time hours of work Next Steps If you think this position may have the potential for you - please send your resume and cover letter to us In your cover letter, please (briefly) outline the following three items: 1.
