**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Manager of Student Services, Paul Menton Centre (PMC), the primary duties of the Student Support Officer will be to coordinate office administration functions and support services to address the functional limitations of students with Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), medical, psychiatric, and other disabilities. The incumbent will also coordinate PMC Referral Service and the PMC Volunteer Program. The Student Support Officer will be required to raise awareness about PMC’s involvement in the local and broader community. This will require the planning and implementation of an informed communications plan as well as awareness or celebratory events both on and off campus.

The incumbent will play a key role in the recruiting, supervising, and training of student staff and volunteers to support students registered at PMC. The Student Support Officer will be required to possess a comprehensive understanding of how to organize 1,800+ volunteers and service providers with specialties in notetaking, tutoring, captioning, scribing, and event participation.

The incumbent will assist in the coordination and organization of postsecondary transition programs, for prospective and current students, and recommend appropriate referrals to additional support providers on campus and in the community. The incumbent will need to create and maintain communications for events and news arising from PMC involvement in the accessibility community.

**Qualifications**:
**The incumbent must possess the following qualifications**:

- Theoretical knowledge of and experience in program facilitation and evaluation.
- Extensive experience in designing and facilitating workshops.
- Comprehensive ability to mentor and train new volunteers involved in PMC services.
- Understanding of Human Rights Legislation, AODA, and institutional obligations in the post-secondary setting.
- In-depth problem-solving and forward thinking skills to anticipate complex problems for which there is no definitive answer, and for which only individual solutions can be adapted.
- Ability to maintain and develop positive working relationships with others and resolve misunderstanding or conflict.
- Ability to fulfil service for unique needs of the student clientele and to provide a quality service, at the same time upholding the integrity of university policy and essential requirements of a degree or course.
- Possess a combination of professionalism, empathy, knowledge of various disabilities, interpersonal skills and administrative ability.
- Ability to assist with exam accommodation scheduling and the complexities that surrounds them, including a professional relationship with faculty.
- Experience with media relations and networking ability to raise aware about PMC’s involvement in the community.

**Education and Experience**:
**The above is normally acquired through the completion of**:

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, including specialization or course work in disabilities, marketing, communications, and learning and evaluation procedures.
- Membership and/or involvement with Post-Secondary Disability Awareness associations is an asset.
- Training in Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and other relevant or equivalent certifications.
- Extensive experience organizing a large volunteer databases as well as recruitment, supervising, training, and evaluation of these volunteers working with the stated student populations.
- Minimum five years’ of experience working with persons representing all disability groups, including two years of experience coordinating support services for students with disabilities, and three years’ experience with organizing fundraising, awareness and transition events/programs within the accessibility community.
