Job Title: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Reporting To: Board of Directors, Board Chair

The Chief Executive Officer will be responsible for the operational and strategic leadership of the Innovation Cluster. To be successful, the CEO must have a robust awareness and understanding of complexities and experiences driving entrepreneurial success. He or She will be the primary ambassador of the Innovation-cluster in the Peterborough-Kawartha region and be skilled in complex project management, executive-level communication, stakeholder cultivation and partnership building. The new CEO will have a minimum of 10 years overall experience with an impeccable track record as a founder, leading innovation, promoting organizations, or achieving successful exit strategies.

**Primary Duties and Responsibilities of the CEO**

The new Chief Executive Officer of the Innovation Cluster will provide Leadership by:

- Establishing strategic plans and programs of the Innovation Cluster.
- Planning, developing, implementing, and directing the operational and fiscal functions and performance as per the good fiscal management practices.
- Mentoring and engaging with staff, clients, and members across the organization to foster growth and encourage development.
- Providing leadership, mentorship, and guidance to businesses and other clients of the Innovation Cluster.
- Maintaining positive relationships with and supports the Board of Directors in exercising their fiduciary responsibility by keeping them informed of all aspects of the business operations, including, but not limited to, issues relating to finance, and risk.

Operations
- Develops and oversees the organization’s annual operating and service delivery plans, including key performance indicators.
- Oversees and manages the day-to-day operations of the organization.
- Ensures the operations of the organization are in alignment with the expectations of clients, partners, and the Board of Directors.
- Establishes, maintains, and monitors all policies and procedures of the organization. Reviews policies and procedures annually and makes recommendations on new or revised policies to the Board of Directors.

Finances
- Establishes annual budgetary priorities and funding targets in concert with the Board of Directors.
- Ensures the financial sustainability of the organization through the proactive acquisition of funding and best fiscal management practices.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with local, provincial, and national funding organizations.

Communication and Community Relations
- Establishes and monitors the annual communications plan for the organization.
- Establishes and maintains relationships between the Innovation Cluster and local, provincial, national, and international partners and organizations.
- Maintains strong relationships and proactively seek opportunities capitalize on synergies with key partners including Trent University and Fleming College.
- Represent the Innovation Cluster at meetings, events, and activities, as well as in the community.
- Builds and maintains relationships with all areas and levels of government within the region.

Programs
- In alignment with the organization’s strategic priorities, oversees and evaluates the annual programming and events calendar for the organization, ensuring the exceptional delivery of programs and activities to meet goals and key performance indicators.
- Establishes and oversees the screening and approval process of potential clients.
- Ensure that all clients of the Innovation Cluster are connected with excellent mentorship.

Human Resources
- Develops and oversees the organization’s human resources and staffing plans.
- Ensures that all staff are successfully on-boarded to the organization (as applicable), and trained in the appropriate systems, activities, tools, and legislation required for successful performance in their role.
- Establishes and maintains a positive workplace culture that adheres to all regulations and legislation.

Data Management
- Establishes and monitors processes for the safe and secure handling and storage of data and information, adhering to any relevant external legislation or guidelines.

Special Projects
- Oversee the planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation, of special projects that align with the organization’s strategic priorities.

**Preferred Qualifications**

Education and Career-Level Training and Designations
- Completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma in the areas of business, management, entrepreneurship, public policy, engineering, manufacturing, or a related field preferred and encouraged.

Demonstrated Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- Experience managing a complex and multi-faceted organization.
- Strong Knowledge and Experience with governmental grant and funding programs
