**About the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada**:The Jane Goodall Institute of Canada (JGI) is part of a global conservation organization that supports wildlife protection, environmental education and community-centred conservation in Senegal, Uganda, DR Congo, Tanzania, and Republic of the Congo. In Canada, the Institute is focused on mobilizing movements and youth engagement around the convergence of three crises: climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental inequity, while centering Indigenous perspectives in our work.

The Bookkeeper will work with the JGIC team to ensure all the financial systems and processes are coordinated and carried out.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Bookkeeping is kept up-to-date, organized, and accurate.
- Accounts payable, including expense claims, credit card transactions, staff payroll, and GST/HST recording and reporting.
- Review all claims submitted for each project to ensure they comply with requirements and source documents before disbursing funds to vendors.
- Review coding and appropriateness of vendor invoices before processing payments.
- Communicate with staff to clarify and expedite information and claims processing.
- Address queries from external and internal users about payments due and allowable claims allocated to projects and departments.
- Process weekly payments, including Electronic Funds Transfers, Wires, E -transfers.
- Coordinate with the fundraising team to record all donations in QuickBooks.
- Reconcile QuickBooks deposits with Salesforce deposits and other reports.
- Weekly bank deposits and receipting.
- Maintain a grant reporting schedule for all grants and carry out regular and periodic accounting adjustments, including recurring allocations, to accurately assign grants to expenses and revenue.
- Ongoing maintenance and review of grant allocations and reports in Quickbooks for accuracy and record keeping.
- Review monthly transactions and key accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and post all adjusting and month-end entries to the general ledger.
- Review adjusting entries and financial results with the Finance Director
- Obtain signoff from the Finance Director to close off the financial period.
- Assist with year-end entries and adjustments.
- Prepare the year-end audit files and audit files for projects.
- Work with colleagues in the project team to provide answers and supporting documents requested by external auditors.
- Monthly journal entry adjustments and monthly reconciliation reports; and
- Files JGIC payment records, receipts, statements, and other financial documentation
- Ongoing maintenance and administration of QuickBooks for accuracy and record keeping.
- Participate in team and organizational meetings and committees, as needed; and
- Other responsibilities as assigned.

**Key qualifications and experience**
- 1-2 years of bookkeeping or accounting-related experience preferred.
- Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping, accounting payable/receivable and general principles of accounting.
- Ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks software.
- Strong interpersonal skills enable you to communicate clearly and effectively with other team members.
- Ability to work on multiple projects while adhering to tight deadlines.
- Excellent data entry skills.

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

**Salary**: $53,000.00 per year
